Today PV Sindhu showed great performance in badminton as she defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi and stepped into the semi finals of women’s singles badminton competition of Tokyo Olympics 2020. She had an amazing 21-13, 22-20 win over her opponent. This made her step into the semifinals and just one would step away from winning a medal for India. If she wins a medal for India in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 this will be her second Olympic medal which she can add to the silver medal she won at the 2016 Rio games.
PV Sindhu played so fiercely that she just needed 23 minutes to win the first game with some top-notch smashes. However, the first game was quite easy for PV Sindhu to conquer but in the second game the Japanese shuttler made a comeback and it was quite a tough competition which extended overall 56 minutes.
PV Sindhu comfortably placed in the second set with a 14-8 lead, but after that Yamaguchi made a huge comeback and set a 20-18 lead at one point in time. But PV Sindhu didn’t give up and she took four straight points to win the match. Sindhu was very calm from the beginning. In the second round, Sindhu was not desperate to close out the points as she knew that Yamaguchi was struggling. PV Sindhu saved her game points at 18-20 and then she converted her first match point so that she could end Japan’s hope in singles.
Yamaguchi won three of the last four matches which were against PV Sindhu. And because of this reason, she was looking really confident and she applied pressure on Sindhu at first. But as PV Sindhu has also won 11 out of the previous 18 matches this year, she too showed really impressive skills.
Because of PV Sindhu’s tactics and her gameplay she was able to defeat Yamaguchi and make her step towards the semifinals.
After the match, PV Sindhu said that she is happy but according to her it’s time to relax and she will now get ready for her next match. Indeed PV Sindhu is really hardworking and her hard work also pays off.
PV Sindhu earlier competed with Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel, Ngan Yi Cheung of Hong Kong, and Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark. And she has competed with them fiercely and defeated all of them.
As PV Sindhu won the matches and gave hope of winning a medal, several fans congratulated her and celebrated Sindhu’s win. The fans were so impressed by Sindhu’s fightback in her second game.
Sindhu will now face Thailand Ratchanok Inthanon and Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying in the semi-finals.
After Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal for India, Indians were really happy but after that, it was really disappointing as after her no one was able to win or qualify for the medal round. But because of PV Sindhu’s hard work, we all hope that now India will surely win a medal.
