She’s fortunate to have friends who care enough to hold her accountable for her mistakes, attempt to help her see the other side of the story, and want to see her grow and progress. And for the most part, things went well.
Of course, there wasn’t that disastrous dock scene, but that wasn’t Kathryn’s fault; Madison was merely desperate for some screen time as if any of us needed it. When Madison eventually zipped it up, the other ladies, including Leva, Venita, and Madison Simon, could converse quietly with Kathryn, who was willing to be open and vulnerable. It felt like progress was being made and that the season was coming to an end—shame on me for thinking that way about this show’s finale.
Because the episode’s last moments reveal that Kathryn and her lover Chleb Ravenell are still together, and we jump forward six months to the chevalier.
Kathryn is checking for pregnancy. With a stick in her hand, she emerges from the bathroom (after the obligatory tinkling and subsequent flushing sound can be heard behind the closed door) and sits down to study it with a sigh. But the results are never revealed to us.

This is why it stinks: Southern Charm did a fantastic job of growing this season, proving with each episode that this isn’t the first, second, or even fifth season of the program. They were capable of capturing the same endearing bumblings, even ensuring that we’d see them at an embarrassing dinner party or two, but this time with a whole new set of 2020 issues.
To close a season that dealt with a global pandemic, showcasing both the comic elements and consequences and the Black Lives Matter movement, with yet another “oops, Kathryn is pregnant again!” but without actually disclosing anything? This show is far superior to that. Because if Kathryn is indeed pregnant, this show blew a tremendous opportunity to announce and celebrate the news in a classy manner. But, if what she’s been putting on Instagram, as recently as yesterday, is to be believed, she’s in the best shape of her life.
Was this a last-ditch effort to sympathize with Kathryn? Because it was utterly misguided. Did they assume a stunt like this was necessary since no one would be talking about the show? I have the Twitter mentions and the inbox to back me up. This felt like an actual amateur move, not to mention confusing, needless, and unnecessary, after a season that not only highlighted but represented so much progress (some forced, some surprise, all-important). We just finished watching the previous ten episodes. Fortunately, next week’s reunion, which features…a lot of hair and much more yelling, is right in line with the season.
