The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted is no longer taking admissions after four seasons on The CW’s Legacies. Legacies’ season finale (9/8c) on June 16 will now serve as the series finale. Legacies was chosen by TV Line readers as the one bubble programme they most wanted revived, but it was not to be.
This isn’t the end of just one show. Legacies is the third series in the Vampire Diaries franchise, and as its name suggests, it has a lot of history. This autumn will be the first time in 13 years that no show from that franchise will be on The CW’s new season schedule.
The CW’s unusually high number of cancellations this season — seven shows were cancelled on May 12 alone — is most likely related to the network’s rumoured eventual sale (perhaps to the Nexstar affiliate group) and hence its uncertain future.
Legacies has averaged 760,000 total weekly viewers and a 0.2 demo rating (with Live+7 playback added in) this season, down from 1 million/0.3 in Season 3.
