After the overwhelming success of Frozen 2 (which became the highest-grossing animation EVER after its debut in November 2019), a threequel would have looked like a foregone conclusion. Still, Disney has yet to move through with plans for it.
It hasn’t been discussed in any detail since about the time Into the Unknown premiered on Disney+ in June 2020. Regarding a third film, Mark Smith, the director of the story for Frozen II, said, “We have not had that discussion.
Chris Buck, who co-directed Frozen films with Jennifer Lee, concurred with his ideas. He told RadioTimes.com, “I always ask us a little bit later… for us, I would say… ask us in six months!” Although we haven’t heard anything new regarding a prospective threequel, that doesn’t imply they haven’t been quietly working on something.
In an interview with Digital Spy before the sequel’s debut, Lee did admit that the second movie had a sense of being Anna and Elsa’s final chapter. However, as she also noted, they had said the same thing after the previous film.
“For us, this feels like what we set out to accomplish. It feels like the end, but the first one felt like the end when we did it. We don’t know. I think, right now, it feels like the end,” she explained.
Frozen Season 3 Release date
Since there were six years between the release of Frozen and Frozen II, even if Frozen 3 were to happen, fans could have to wait until 2025 to see Anna and Elsa again.
Naturally, there might be a gap given the fantastic making-of-Frozen II documentary series Into the Unknown (streaming on Disney+). This series explores the incredible level of detail that goes into developing an animation.
The wait for Frozen 3 seems to be going on for a while as of this writing. Therefore, let’s hope Disney starts discussing it soon so we can have a more precise notion of when to expect it.
The cast of Frozen Season 3
If there is the third instalment of Frozen, Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Josh Gad as Olaf, and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff (and Sven) will all return.
Since the sequel’s publication, we anticipate that everyone would be open to returning, and Gad has already played Olaf again for the online series At Home with Olaf. Sterling K. Brown as Mattias, Jason Ritter as Ryder, Rachel Matthews as Ryder’s sister Honeymaren, and Ciarán Hinds as Pabbie, king of the Rock Trolls, are all likely to make further appearances.
Following flashbacks in Frozen II, we might also see more of Iduna and Agnarr, the parents of Anna and Elsa, played by Evan Rachel Wood and Alfred Molina.
All of this casting is pure speculation because Disney hasn’t even confirmed the existence of a third movie.
The plot of Frozen Season 3
In keeping with the producer’s promise that the two films would convey “one complete story,” it feels like a logical conclusion to the arcs established in Frozen. Anna has discovered her place in the world, and Elsa has finally come to terms with her magical side.
If a third film were to be made, they would need to invent a situation that would put Anna and Elsa in danger again, and it might end up being an unnecessary prequel.
Gad believes there will only be the third film if there are any more, “was a reason to exist,” like with the sequel. “I don’t know if and when there will be a Frozen 3, and that’s way above my pay grade,” he told PopCulture.com.
“If there’s always a story worth telling, I’m sure that Jennifer Lee and the incredible team over at Disney animation will tell that story one day.”
Recap of Frozen Season 2
To learn why a mysterious voice has been calling to Elsa and to stop the enchanted spirits from destroying Arendelle, Anna and Elsa travel to the magical forest outside of Arendelle in the sequel.
In the past, there was a conflict between the Arendelle soldiers and the Northuldra inhabitants of the forest, which resulted in the woodland’s isolation from the outside world.
To cut a long story short, they learn that their parents were shipwrecked en route to Ahtohallan to look for Elsa’s power source. Anna and Elsa locate their ship in the magical forest and know that their mother is Northuldran.
In addition, their grandpa started the fight by building a dam in the forest to weaken the Northuldran people. Anna realises she must destroy the dam to release the forest to make one for past wrongs.
Elsa was stuck in Ahtohallan, searching for the voice, which was revealed to be a memory of her mother. She accomplishes this barely in time. Elsa becomes the “fifth spirit,” the link connecting the natural world and the world of magic. However, as we all know, a bridge has two sides, and the other is Anna.
The two kingdoms will coexist peacefully if Elsa stays in the forest and Anna is crowned queen of Arendelle.
Trailer
We can’t show you anything from the third movie because Disney hasn’t confirmed it yet. However, if you’re missing Arendelle, there is a tonne of Frozen content to enjoy.
FAQ
Is a frozen three on the horizon?
Although several of the Frozen cast members appear eager to return for Frozen 3, it doesn’t seem like it is currently in development.
In Frozen 3, will Elsa find love?
The entertainment website said on Monday that “Disney has plans to offer Elsa a female love interest” in the upcoming Frozen movie. The plan is for Elsa to have a partner in the threequel so confirm her sexuality, the website claims. “[W] ‘re told it’s happening, and again,” the site reports, “the intention is for Elsa to have a girlfriend in the threequel, confirming her sexuality in the process.”
Anna’s powers in Frozen 3?
Elsa tells Anna that a bridge has two sides, signifying that both sisters are essential components of the equation. Elsa is a bridge between humans and the natural world as the fifth spirit, and this fact guarantees that Anna won’t possess any special abilities if Frozen 3 ever materialises.
In Frozen 2, will Elsa find love?
Now that Frozen 2 is in theatres, it is evident that Elsa does not have a girlfriend in that movie. Fans have, however, continued to speculate that it might be something that would happen in the future, and the filmmakers have not confirmed nor denied it.
