The 2018 Halloween film, directed by David Gordon Green and produced by horror juggernaut Jason Blum, surprised everyone and grossed a tidy sum of money. This prompted Universal and Blumhouse to make the obvious choice to approve not one but two sequels. The first, Halloween Kills, debuted in theatres and on Peacock on October 15, and it was a financial success for the production company.
We can’t wait to find out what happens to Laurie Strode, Michael Myers, and the community of Haddonfield, Illinois, in the third film in the series, Halloween Ends, which won’t be out for another year.
Halloween Ends Release date
On October 14, 2022, Halloween Ends is slated to be released in theatres. The movie’s initial release date was set for October 15, 2021. However, since Halloween Kills’ release date was postponed by a year, the threequel was forced to follow suit.
It will be the only movie to debut on that day as of right now, but given that it’s still a year away, that won’t likely last long. The film currently opens in theatres a week after the eagerly awaited animated Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse sequel and a week before the George Clooney/Julia Roberts love comedy Ticket To Paradise. Since the audiences for all three of those movies varied, neither will pose a significant threat to the slasher. The slasher sequels were initially intended to follow that path, but things didn’t turn out that way.
Andi Matichak stated in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the filming schedule for Halloween Kills was so demanding and ambitious that it would not have been feasible to shoot the two movies simultaneously. One of the actors who play Michael Myers, James Jude Courtney, said that production is to begin in January, offering the finished product a shorter turnaround than the previous two entries.
The cast of Halloween Ends
Although nothing has officially said, Jamie Lee Curtis’s comeback as Laurie Strode and Andi Matichak’s return as Allyson is sure. Unfortunately for those two characters, Michael Myers killed most of the cast from the previous two movies, including, among others, Robert Longstreet’s Lonnie, Judy Greer’s Karen, Anthony Michael Hall’s Tommy Doyle, Dylan Arnold’s Cameron, and others.
Other characters who survived the last movie’s events include Kyle Richards’ Lindsey Wallace, Omar Dorsey’s Sheriff Barker, and Will Patton’s Deputy Frank Hawkins. We’ll have to wait to find out who they are. However, it’s also probable that there will be a lot of fresh people joining the group. Danny McBride and Green will collaborate on the sequel’s writing and directing duties. Along with the two previously mentioned writers, Paul Brad Logan (Manglehorn) and Chris Bernier will provide two fresh voices to the script (The House: A Hulu Halloween Anthology).
John Carpenter, the originator of the series, will also return to produce the movie and again write the music. Green views his three movies as the first of a four-part narrative, with Carpenter’s original from 1978 serving as part two. Hollywood should let Michael Myers and Laurie rest, according to Green, before bringing them back to life. Here’s what he told Collider: “My ego says create something that is a four-part series beginning with Carpenter’s, 1978 film, and then our follow-up trilogy. I’m sure the mythology takes over and Michael and Laurie will emerge in some new capacity with some new filmmaker, and storyteller behind them. But for me, I’ll be done. I hope they’ll take a little time off before they renew it. But that’s just my ego.”
The plot of Halloween Ends
Not much is all about Halloween Ends, although Green recently came up with a few narrative points. There will be a four-year time leap in contrast to Halloween Kills, which was only seconds after the last movie’s events. In an interview with Uproxx, Green referred to the COVID-19 Pandemic and what he dubbed “peculiar politics” as real-world events that have occurred since 2018. Halloween Ends will take place four years after the last movie’s events.
Though precisely what Green means is unclear, the previous two films suggest that incorporating social and real-world themes into the franchise is not altogether out of the ordinary. Green has made it clear that Laurie Strode may not be the central character in the upcoming movie; instead, he intimated to Fandom that Allyson, Laurie Strode’s granddaughter, will be, along with her “considerations and psychology.” It is somewhat clear when you consider all she has lost throughout the last two films, including her father, lover, and mother.
Trailer
The trailer is not out yet. Although little is clear about Halloween Ends’ contents. Well, the little that it has contributed to raising interest in the project. David Gordon Green and colleagues recently disclosed that the movie would have a time jump. It is to allow the timeline to catch up with the actual year. Additionally, it is clear that the epidemic will be in a future slasher. Besides that, the film is a mystery, particularly in light of Michael’s murder of nearly the entire ensemble of Halloween Kills. Nevertheless, Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards) survived and will participate in the upcoming film.
