Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino, whose previous works include Call Me By Your Name, A Bigger Splash, and the 2018 remake of Suspiria, has just released a new romantic horror movie titled Bones and All. Taylor Russell (Waves) and Timothée Chalamet (Dune) play a cannibalistic couple who journey across America in the late 1980s in this film adaptation of Camille DeAngelis’ best-selling book.
Following Suspiria, Guadagnino directed Bones and All, written by the same scriptwriter. It is also Chalamet’s first film for which he is given production credit, as well as his second collaboration with Guadagnino following Call Me By Your Name. Here is what we currently know about, in case you’re a fan of anyone involved or are intrigued by the notion.
Bones and All Release date
On September 2, 2022, Bones and All had its global premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. On November 18, 2022, the movie will have a restricted release. The movie will have a wide distribution on the day before Thanksgiving, on November 23, 2022. The Steven Spielberg autobiographical The Fabelmans, the magical Disney animated feature Strange World, and the horror flick Nanny are all coming out on the same weekend as Bones and All, which puts it up against some stiff competition.
The cast of Bones and All
Maren Yearly, a troubled young woman who lives in exile due to her cannibalistic inclinations, is portrayed by Taylor Russell. After playing Judy Robinson in the Netflix science fiction series Lost in Space, Russell initially came to public recognition. She has also acted in several films, including Waves, Before I Fall, and Escape Room features. Guadagnino explained why he chose Russell to play the main character in Bones and All.
Taylor Russell has been a favorite of mine since I first saw her in Waves, so I made it a point to make plans with her. She is such an intelligent, brilliant actor that I immediately thought of her when I read the script. This is a charming tale about how love is impossible.
Even when faced with dire situations. The ability to depict these common emotions is something Timmy and Taylor possess.
Lee, a teenage vagabond and fellow cannibal played by Timothée Chalamet, falls in love with Maren. Chalamet rose to fame as an actor in 2017 thanks to his portrayal of Elio in the coming-of-age drama Call Me By Your Name, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Since then, Chalamet has been in other noteworthy films, such as Lady Bird, The French Dispatch, and Dune. For Bones and All, Guadagnino talked about working with Chalamet again.
Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies), Anna Cobb (We’re All Going to the World’s Fair), André Holland (Moonlight), Jessica Harper (Suspiria), Chlo Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry), Francesca Scorsese (We Are Who We Are), and director David Gordon Green of the Halloween reboot trilogy round out the rest of the cast.
The plot of Bones and All
The official Bones and All plot summary is as follows:
A tale of first love between Lee (Timothée Chalamet), an obsessive nomad, and Maren (Taylor Russell), a young lady trying to survive on the outskirts of society, as they meet and embark on a 1,000-mile journey via the back roads, secret passages, and trap doors of Ronald Reagan’s America. But despite their best attempts, they can’t avoid revisiting their frightening pasts and coming to a decisive battle that will test whether their love can endure being different.
Rylance has also talked about the parallels between Guadagnino’s earlier works and Bones and All:
Yes, it’s a very intriguing genre. It’s a road movie but has elements of a Bonnie and Clyde love story. And they’re eating people, too. Therefore, it has a thoughtful component concerning the things we get from our parents. Similar to learning you are gay, which is something you didn’t know about yourself, in Call Me By Your Name. What do you do about that? Thankfully, it’s simpler now in the West than, say, if you learned it in Afghanistan or another place where it might result in your execution.
It will be intriguing to see how to Call Me By Your Name’s sensitive coming-of-age themes are combined with Suspiria’s more graphic horror components in Bones and All.
