There have been whispers of conflict between Don’t Worry Darling director Olivia Wilde and star Florence Pugh for months. Shia LaBeouf, who was initially contracted to star in the film with Pugh, recently made some additional discoveries that seemed to validate the rumor.
The filmmaker received custody papers from her ex-husband Jason Sudeikis while promoting Don’t Worry Darling, and there is controversy around Wilde’s connection with pop sensation Harry Styles, who took over LaBeouf’s starring part.
The conflict seemed to pick more steam during the film’s Venice Film Festival premiere, with rumors about Pugh’s lack of interaction with Wilde or Styles and a viral video alleging that Styles spit on Chris Pine.
Why isn’t Florence Pugh helping to promote the movie?
Fans saw that Pugh was scarcely advertising Don’t Worry Darling on her social media sites, despite the fact that she had been an active poster about prior projects she had worked on. This was the first sign of turmoil. The way Florence Pugh has failed to post about Don’t Worry, Darling even though there are two trailers out for it and yet she’ll post about every single other project that she’s working on right now, such as what Olivia Wilde does, was noted by one fan in a tweet from July.
LaBeouf apparently made Pugh uncomfortable toward the beginning of the filming.
Even Pugh and Wilde have argued over how the movie should be promoted. Earlier this year, Wilde expressed her desire for the Don’t Worry Darling audience to understand how uncommon it is to witness female hunger, and more especially, this kind of female pleasure. Pugh, though, said that the film is more than just its sex scenes in a Harper’s Bazaar article. It’s not why we do it when it’s down to your sex scenes or seeing the most famous man in the world humiliate someone. It’s not the reason I work in this field, Pugh claims. Of course, you’re going to have those kinds of discussions when you hire the biggest pop star in the world. Simply said, I’m not going to talk about that because [this movie is] greater and larger than that. And the creators are more and superior to that.
What role does Harry Styles play in this?
Styles has not responded to anything when he is playing in Love on Tour. Since they worked together on Don’t Worry, Darling, he and Olivia Wilde have been rumored to be dating.
Why is Jason Sudeikis a part of this?
After a seven-year engagement, Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis secretly called it quits in the fall of 2020. Sudeikis said to GQ in 2021 that he still wasn’t sure why they had broken up. In a year, an even better one in two, and an even better one in five, Jason will have a better knowledge of why. It will transition from being, you know, a book of my life to becoming a chapter, a paragraph, a line, a phrase, or even a doodle.

As for the never-ending tabloid rumors and other nonsense, I mean, the internet feeds itself, Wilde stated during the press conference. I have no inclination to contribute. It appears to be well-fed, in my opinion. Any inquiries concerning Shia LaBeouf were cut off by the moderator.
Things became much more uncomfortable on the red carpet, as Pugh and Styles and Wilde hardly spoke at all. When captioning a photo of Pugh looking stunning on the red carpet, Pugh’s stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray alluded to the drama by writing Miss Flo, a reference to the now-viral video Wilde made for LaBeouf.
Also from Venice, there was more drama: in one go-viral video, internet fans assume that Styles spit on Chris Pine as he takes his seat. Based on his interactions with Pugh on the red carpet, Pine appears to be on Pugh’s side in this situation and is sitting between Styles and Wilde. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Pine’s response “clearly implies” that he did. In any event, the video has undoubtedly been the most popular topic of conversation on Twitter since its debut and has received millions of views.
The claim of spit is pure fiction and the consequence of an unusual web illusion that is blatantly deceptive and allows for dumb conjecture,” Pine’s spokesperson stated in a statement to Variety. Any insinuation that there is anything other than respect between these two guys is a clear attempt to generate drama that just does not exist.
A few days before the debut on Stephen Colbert’s late-night program a few weeks later, Wilde addressed spit-gate as well. The answer is no. However, I believe it is a perfect illustration of the fact that drama can be found almost anywhere. In actuality, Harry didn’t spit on Chris.
