From its release date to its cast, plot, and other specifics, here is everything we know about Captain America 4, Anthony Mackie’s first solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
For better or worse, Phase Four of the MCU is currently in full swing. Before we get to Doctor Strange, Thor, and all the Disney+ content, it began with a too-little-too-late solo outing for Black Widow, introduced martial arts to the franchise with Shang-Chi, enlisted a whole new team with Eternals, and played with a trio of wall-crawlers in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which explored the ongoing missions and exploits of Wilson (Mackie) and Bucky Barnes, was one such small-screen release (Sebastian Stan).
The television show paved the way for Captain America, who now proudly has the shield, thanks to Wilson. But what will its subject matter be, when will it be released, and who will star in and oversee the production of Captain America 4?
Captain America 4 Release date
Captain America: New World Order is the name of the fourth Captain America movie. Before Thunderbolts, Captain America 4 will be the second-to-last movie to be released in the MCU’s Phase Five on May 3, 2024.
The cast of Captain America 4
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie will play Sam Wilson/Captain America and assume the title character’s role.
Harrison Ford will replace the late William Hurt in the role of General Thaddeus E. “Thunderbolt” Ross. As The Leader, the antagonist set up after The Incredible Hulk, Tim Blake Nelson is also returning to the MCU.
Given his previous performances in every Captain America film and his growing friendship with Sam in the Disney+ series, it would make sense to assume Sebastian Stan will reprise his role as Bucky. It’s not known, though, if Bucky would still be dealing with any past trauma if he became the Winter Soldier, if it would include him, or if it meant turning into the White Wolf. It’s also still being determined whether other cast members, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, aka US Agent, and Emily VanCamp’s Sharon Carter, will make an appearance in Captain America 4.
Producer Nate Moore suggested that the latter figure “replace” Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Chris Evans, who famously portrayed Steve Rogers in earlier Captain America films and handled the shield for the Avengers’ battles with Thanos, is also under scrutiny. He is allegedly going to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but no specifics have been revealed as of yet.
But he’s a big fan of his former co-star. Sam Wilson is Captain America. He tweeted in reaction to The Hollywood Reporter, who questioned his participation if the “question of who is eligible to wield the shield remains” in the fourth movie.
The plot of Captain America 4
The story of Captain America 4 will follow Sam as he gets used to becoming Captain America, according to producer Nate Moore.
He stated: “I think he’s not Steve Rogers, and I think that’s a good thing,” during an appearance on Comic Book’s Phase Zero podcast.
“Because Rocky is this new Cap to me. In every circumstance, he will be the underdog. He is not a super soldier. He is not a century old. The Avengers are not with him. What occurs when someone openly proclaims, without any support, “I’m the next Captain America”? What follows is what? Sam became the new Captain America after receiving the shield from an aging Steve Rogers after Avengers: Endgame. Sam struggled with assuming that role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, first giving up security while the government hired John Walker as the designated successor.
On the other hand, Walker proved to be a bit of a wildcard; in fact, he nearly severed a guy in half with the shield. With the aid of the Wakandans, Sam could fly to New York with his trusty shield, a stylish new outfit, and his new uniform, becoming known as the new Captain America.
Walker’s narrative may or may not be here in the follow-up, out that Valentina hired him. Walker’s report may or may not be in the follow-up, given that Valentina hired him. Whether Sharon, who was fine by the CIA and intended to exploit her access to sell state secrets, will appear again is also unknown.
It was so that Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), in to possibly continuing Bucky’s journey, would assume Sam’s former role as the Falcon.
As of this writing, there are no additional verified story points for Captain America 4.
