India’s former captain, Rahul Dravid is surely one of the most perfect candidates to replace Ravi Shastri as per many cricket fans. Many cricket fans have been wanting Dravid to replace Shastri after his contract comes to an end. Especially after Shastri indicated that he is not willing to continue or extend his contract, cricket fans have been openly suggesting Dravid’s name for the post of coach. Team India’s head coach, as the latter’s tenure, is coming to an end after the T20 World Cup 2021 comes to an end.
Well, Shastri has already hinted at not being willing to extend his contract and was quick to reach out to the India cricket fans. Although it is important to make a note of that, Shastri did have a very successful journey. He did receive a lot of fame by being a coach of the Indian team but unfortunately, he does not wish to continue the contract. As per reports, in CricTracker, Dravid has now politely refused the request proposed by the BCCI. They offered him to succeed Shastri as India’s head coach.
Dravid was India’s stand-in coach during their limited-overs tour that happened in Sri Lanka early this year. During that period, Shastri-Virat Kohli & Co. were in England and Wales for their five Tests versus Joe Root & Co. Also, Shikhar Dhawan led the second-stringed Indian team under Dravid and had won the ODI series (2-1) playing against Sri Lanka before losing the three T20Is, with the same margin. They played well despite missing many of their players due to the Covid-crisis in the Indian camp.
However, as per a few of the reports, Dravid isn’t interested in taking over as the Indian team’s coach at any time soon. He is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), in Bengaluru. His coaching has been impressive and has surely helped in the upbringing of the young talents, consolidating India’s bench strength. Also under his coaching, he has been ensuring a constant supply of players at the international level.
Well, now along with Shastri, bowling coach Bharat Arun and fielding coach R Sridhar’s terms are also coming to an end post the T20 WC. Thus, the Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI — as per the terms laid out under its constitution. Well, it will now officially advertise for the post of India’s head coach closer to the end of the tenure. Shastri has already taken over as the head coach just after Anil Kumble, He used to coach in mid-2017. Under his coaching, India beat Australia twice in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under. Also, the team was able to reach the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup. The Indian team ended as runners-up in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
