I hope I haven’t let him down- Ravi Shastri leaves the position as team India’s head coach!

Ravi Shastri stepped down from the post of Team India’s head coach just after the Indian team crashed out of the T20 World Cup 2021. Shastri made sure to leave on a positive note as Indian players won three matches in a row. This was at the end of their campaign in the tournament and on Monday, November 8, the members were successful in taking over Gerhard Erasmus’s Namibia. The match ended with nine wickets in hand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Nevertheless, the Indian team did not succeed to go beyond the Super 12.

Well, the men in blue could not recover from their initial losses which they had to face in their match against Pakistan and New Zealand teams. Shastri, in the meantime, expressed how thankful he was towards the Board of Control for Cricket in India as they gave him the opportunity to be the national head coach. Shastri took the position of Indian team’s head coach in 2017 after Anil Kumble resigned from the post. This happened after his alleged spat with Virat Kohli.

Well, India couldn’t win an ICC trophy under Shastri’s coaching, they shattered a number of records in bilateral series around the world. Shastri was seen saying, “I didn’t have the belief that I could do this job.” “It’s been one heck of a journey. it’s my last day in the dressing room, I just spoke to the boys. I’d like to thank the BCCI for giving me this opportunity, believing that I could do the job and I must thank in this also all the committees that were there in picking me as the coach, including Vinod Rai and his team for some time, the COA,” Shastri stated in the post-match presser.

The 59-year-old Shastri was also seen expressing his gratitude towards the former BCCI chief N Srinivasan. Shastri was happy that he showed adequate faith in him. “But there’s one man I would want to give special mention to. His name is N Srinivasan. He was the man who insisted that I do this job in 2014. “In fact, I didn’t have the belief that I could do this job and he seemed to have more belief in my abilities than I had, and I hope I haven’t let him down. So, sir, if you’re listening, I got my opportunity and did my work without any agenda,” Shastri said. Apart from being the head coach for the Indian team members, Shastri was also their team director for around two years now since he got the post in 2014.
