Regarding the deadline, Leonardo DiCaprio is in final talks with MGM to play and produce Jim Jones. Jones, the notorious religious cult leader who planned a mass suicide-suicide in 1978, was played by the Oscar winner. The script was written by Scott Rosenberg, reputed for his work on Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, High Fidelity, and Married.
The actual narrative of Jim Jones, the originator of the People’s Temple, a religious cult that espoused Christian socialism, is told in Jim Jones. Jones then purported to be God and guided his adherents to the composition in Guyana in 1974, which became famous as “Jonestown.”
Following claims of human rights breaches that threatened a U.S. government interrogation, Jones orchestrated a mass suicide that murdered 918 members of the church, including more than 304 kids, in November 1978. In a gunfight with the municipality staff, five U.S. government delegates, including U.S. Representative Leo Ryan, were killed. The sad incident gave rise to the phrase “drink Kool-Aid,” which symbolised the cyanide-laced grape flavour drink consumed by the cult members.
DiCaprio’s schedule is jam-packed for the next two months. In December, he takes part in Netflix’s Do Not Look Up. Adam McVay directed the film, in which DiCaprio plays a scientist who tries to persuade the world that the sky is falling – um, that a comet is on its way to Earth. In this case, “all-star cast” is a bit of an understatement. Ron Perlman, Michael Chiklis, Melanie Lynskey, Ariana Grande, Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, Mark Rylance, Himesh Patel, Gina Gershon, Cate Blanchett, Chris Evans, Jonah Hill, Meryl Steep, and Jennifer Lawrence feature with DiCaprio.
