Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader, expressed his condolences on Monday for the deaths caused by the recent tornadoes that ravaged numerous states in the United States.
In a statement, the Dalai Lama stated, “I have had the pleasure to visit some of these states in the past, and I send my condolences to you, to the families who have lost loved ones, and to everyone touched by these catastrophic storms.”
He also praised the United States government for its response to the crisis.
“I appreciate that the US government, as well as state governments in the impacted areas, are doing all possible to provide urgent help and comfort to the victims,” he continued.
More than 80 people are believed to have died as a result of tornadoes that struck six states late Friday and early Saturday, including Kentucky district judge Brian Crick. According to CNN, at least 50 tornadoes were reported in Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee during the outbreak this weekend.
Following Friday night’s storm, more than 50,000 people in Kentucky are still without power.
