Senator Elizabeth Warren of the United States has tested positive with Covid-19 despite receiving a vaccine against the virus. According to the Xinhua news agency, the Democratic Senator from Massachusetts tweeted that her normal test came back negative last week, but that she “tested positive with a breakthrough case” on Sunday.
Warren stated that she was only suffering minor symptoms and that she was “grateful for the protection afforded against major sickness that comes with getting vaccinated and boosted.”
She may or may not have contracted the highly transmissible Omicron strain that is causing Covid-19 flare-ups in the United States.
Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, predicted that Omicron would “take over” the United States this winter, encouraging Americans to get completely vaccinated and boosted. On Tuesday, US President Joe Biden is expected to give a speech about Omicron.
The administration is “prepared for the rising case levels,” according to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, and the President will describe how they will respond to the situation.
