On Thursday, mega billionaire Elon Musk tweeted that he is planning to open a new University which will be known as a Texas Institute of Technology and Science. The billionaire has always been vocal about his views against the usefulness of higher education. So there is a chance that Elon Musk may have treated this in a joking manner. But it is not clear how serious Elon Musk is about his new venture, as we have to consider that he has announced recently that he will expand his company in Texas. Well for your information Tesla’s founder’s two companies, SpaceX and The Boring Company are both based in Hawthorne located in California.
Well as soon as the tweet regarding the opening of the Texas Institute Of Technology and Science was made by the billionaire, Twitter users started reacting to his tweet and also about the weird acronym the name of the proposed varsity stands for. Well, Elon Musk has also said that the University will have epic merch and will be universally admired.
A Twitter user wrote, “a good idea. In my humble opinion, however, a better name for the Texas institute will be “Texas Institute of Science and Technology” as technological breakthroughs almost always follow scientific breakthroughs, not vice versa.” To which Elon Musk replied, “nope T is definitely first.”
Well, many users were unhappy at the attempt at humor which was made by Elon Musk. One user commented, “honestly. As a shareholder and consumer, this is really a puzzling and disappointing attempt at humor. We are trying to encourage more women to pursue Technology degrees and careers. I cannot see how this helps that effort in any way.”
While some were unhappy, others were questioning this decision made by Elon Musk as he has been against formal education. Another user questioned him, “if you don’t believe in college education why to build a University?”
Another Twitter user asked whether the fundings are secured for the Texas Institute of Technology and Science, to which Elon Musk replied, “Obv”. It seems like Elon Musk managed to secure funding for the Texas Institute of Technology and Science as per the answer he claimed on Twitter.
Elon Musk has been vocal about his opinion on the current education system. He has also said, “I think college is basically for fun and to prove that you can do your course but they are not for learning”, in the recently held satellite 2020 conference. To the audience, he has also said that college was unnecessary because “you can learn anything you want for free.” Adding to this he has also said that the company Tesla does not have University requirements while they hire people as he thinks that it is absurd.
Elon Musk studied at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario for 2 years and was later transferred to the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physics and economics from the University of Pennsylvania and he also started to pursue a Ph.D. at Stanford University but then, he dropped out after 2 days.
On the other hand, Monday Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest person and CEO of some of the biggest companies like SpaceX and Tesla, witnessed his net wealth which was raised by $36.2 billion, when Hertz global holdings placed an order for 1 lakh tesla cars. It is sure that with the help and the increasing demand for electric cars Tesla is speeding up the world’s shift to renewable power. According to some of the reports and calculations which was provided by Reuters, Tesla stock reached 14.9% to $1045.02, thus making the company the world’s biggest automobile manufacturer.
