Emma Raducanu, the US Open champion, tests positive for COVID and withdraws from the Mubadala World Tennis Championships. Emma Raducanu, the US Open winner, has withdrawn from this week’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship after testing positive for COVID-19.
Britain’s 19-year-old star was set to face Olympic champion Belinda Bencic in Abu Dhabi on Thursday in the exhibition event, which will take place from December 16-18. “I was very excited to play in front of the fans here in Abu Dhabi,” Raducanu stated, “but sadly, after testing positive for Covid-19, I will have to postpone until the next opportunity.”
“I’m isolated as per the guidelines and hope to be back on the court shortly.” The tournament’s organisers stated in a statement: “Emma is now isolating herself and adhering to all of the appropriate measures. We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her on the court again soon.”
Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray are two of the male players competing in the competition.
Raducanu will travel to Australia after the holidays to prepare for the first Grand Slam of 2022, which will begin on January 17th.
