The third instalment of the Clerks series, directed by Kevin Smith, is almost ready for release. The upcoming Clerks threequel will feature a number of the series’ enduring characters while also incorporating meta-fictional humour and details about filmmaker & movie franchise creator Smith’s recent life. Fans of Clerks and Smith’s other View Askewniverse films can expect a similar sense of comedy from the upcoming film as it brings Randal and Dante into the present. The 1994 film “Clerks” had a crucial role in the emergence of independent American cinema. The dark comedy about two men doing a dead-end job at a convenience shop was shot in black and white for less than $30,000 and became a critical darling. It made over $3 million at the box office.
Along with several other films in the View Askewniverse including the popular actors Jay and Silent Bob, Kevin Smith brought back Randal and Dante in the 2006 follow-up Clerks II, where they worked as fast food workers and appeared in a brief animated movie.
In 2012, Kevin Smith made his first allusions to Clerks III, suggesting that the third film would be a crowdfunded movie or a Broadway musical. But before real filming on Clerks 3 could start, the script would undergo multiple modifications and take nine years. The majority of the popular characters from Clerks will be returning, despite the lengthy time interval between films. What is known about Clerks 3 is listed below.
The cast of the series
For Clerks 3, Brian O’Halloran and Jeff Anderson, who played Dante Hicks and Randal Graves, respectively, in the first two Clerks films, will be back. As Jay and Silent Bob, Jason Mewes and Smith will return in their capacities. Other returning characters include Becky (Rosario Dawson) and Elias from Clerks 2, as well as Veronica played by Marilyn Ghigliotti, who makes her first appearance since the first Clerks (Trevor Fehrman.) Fred Armisen, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and frequent Smith collaborator Ben Affleck will all be making their series debuts; whose characters in the film are yet unconfirmed.
Releasing date
Lionsgate has scheduled the theatrical debut of Clerks III for September 13, 2022. As with other Hollywood productions in this period, the film was initially scheduled to debut in July 2022 but was postponed a few months. There are currently no specifics regarding a stream or Theatrical trailer.
Story plot
Following a nearly deadly cardiac arrest, Randal reflects on his life and decides to make a movie about his time working at the Quick Stop convenience store. According to Kevin Smith, who spoke to TheWrap in 2019, Clerks III is about this experience. Randal experiences a heart attack and determines that his life has been meaningless because no one would remember him, his family, or anything else off the sort. Smith said this happened after Randal had the heart attack.
