Over three years have passed since Warner Media approved the creation of an animated series to act as a prequel to the Chris Columbus-penned Gremlins (1984) and Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990) films (The Christmas Chronicles 2). The term “gremlins” first appeared during World War II when RAF personnel attributed aircraft malfunctions to “tiny animals” who enjoy destroying technology. When writing the screenplay for Gremlins, Columbus borrowed elements from this legend. He also claimed to have been inspired by the sounds of a mouse infestation in his attic. In the cult classic black comedy Gremlins, a teenage kid named Billy receives an odd Christmas present from his father.
The father bought a “Mogwai” from a young Chinese boy who gave him explicit instructions on how to take care of it. Never feed him after midnight, and avoid using bright lights and getting him wet. Billy, who refers to the mogwai as “Gizmo,” unintentionally splashes water on it. Gizmo reproduces, giving birth to several young mogwais. Then, after midnight, they lure Billy into feeding them, transforming them into vile green gremlins who are determined to wreak havoc in the small village. Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai had its first episode premiere on June 13, 2022, at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
It was written and executive produced by Tze Chun (Once Upon A Time). Brendan Hay (Dawn of the Croods), Sam Register (Teen Titans Go! ), Darryl Frank (The Americans), and Justin Falvey also serve as executive producers alongside Chun (The Haunting of Bly Manor). Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai Release date
The publication of Secrets of the Mogwai has been postponed until 2023, contrary to earlier expectations that it would happen this year. More information is currently unavailable regarding the particular day the show will be released in 2023.
The cast of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai
Sam Wing, the main character, will be by Izaac Wang, best for playing Soren in the film Good Boys. With his most recent performance as Boun in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon, Wang is also no new to voice acting.
Gabrielle Green will provide the voice for the character Elle (Danger Force). Elle, a well-known street thief, travels with Sam to deliver Gizmo to his family. Green has also appeared in recent seasons of All That and That Girl Lay Lay on Nickelodeon. Sam’s parents, Fong and Hon, will be by Ming-Na Wen (Mulan) and BD Wong (Jurassic World). James Hong will portray Sam’s granddad (Kung Fu Panda). The Americans’ Matthew Rhys will lend his voice to a role called Riley Greene.
Rhys has contributed to all ten episodes, but it’s unknown whether his character will serve as the series’ main antagonist or any other position.
At the end of their adventure, they also seek a legendary treasure that is being after by a ruthless industrialist and his army of wicked gremlins.
The adorable mogwai will no longer be by Howie Mandel, who provided the voice of Gizmo in both Gremlins flicks. A.J. LoCascio, well known for his vocal work as Han Solo in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, will take on the role of Gizmo instead.
Zach Galligan, who portrayed Billy Peltzer, the main character in the original Gremlins films, has now revealed that he will be joining the cast of the new series in an unnamed capacity during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con. Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Randall Park (Always Be My Maybe), Bowen Yang (Fire Island), and the famous George Takei also appear in unidentified guest roles (Star Trek).
The plot of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, which serves as a prelude to the films, tells the cute creature’s origin tale.
