American footballer Gardner Flint Minshew Philadelphia eagles’ quarterback led the team to victory over the New York Jets on Sunday in his first start with the team as they got him mid-season. Minshew shared moments with his father outside the stadium. Minshew was making his debut since being a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He lost the initial job to rookie Trevor Lawrence in the off-season and was later traded to the Eagles and became Jalen Hurts’ backup.
Hurts had been a starter for most of the season but was injured after losing to the New York Giants last week. Minshew came into the game and did well to take the win. He was 20-for-25 with 242 passing yards and two touchdowns. It felt great, man. It’s the best time since Week 1 last year,” Minshew said via the team’s website. “Nothing like that.
It was a pleasure to do this with this group of people. They made it easy for me. It was so much fun.” Minshew tied with tight end Dallas Goedert for both touchdowns and it initially appeared that the Jets and Eagles would be in for a slugfest as both scored touchdowns on their first three properties but things slowed down for New York after the half. Sirianni said, “I think he’s played really good football. There have been times that he’s been one of the best in the league with the way he’s moved around, made plays.
We look at that quarterback rating and what he’s had there, and so he’s played really good football when he’s in, so when he’s healthy and he’s back, he’ll be our starter.” Really happy for Gardner.
