Julia Haart Early Life

Haart was a student at Brooklyn’s Bais Yaakov Academy. She trained herself to sew at the age of 16 and studied fashion publications at home. Haart changed her first name “to the more Hebrew-sounding Talia, to find a mate” when she was 18. She married her first spouse, a yeshiva student five years her senior, when she was 19 years old. As a Haredi Jew in the 1990s and early 2000s, Haart was more dissatisfied with her community. Her treatment of her younger daughter, Miriam, was particularly upsetting. She told The New York Times in a 2021 interview that her daughter “Wouldn’t go along with it. They were trying to crush her down and mold her into that flat person so they could vanish, just like they had done to me. That was not going to happen.”

Haart also struggled with mental health concerns, telling the Los Angeles Times that she had considered suicide before leaving the Haredi community but was concerned about how the stigma might affect her children’s shidduch prospects.

She changed her name to Julia Haart after leaving the community. Her surname Haart is derived from her maiden name, Leibov, akin to the Hebrew word Lev, which means “heart.”

Julia Haart’s Career

Haart taught Judaic Studies at Yeshiva Atlanta in the 1990s and early 2000s; “employees who knew her at the time – when she went by the name Talia Hendler – noted that she was beloved by students and recognized for her caustic manner,” according to the article. Haart marketed life insurance in secret for years.

Haart created Julia Haart, a shoe manufacturer, after leaving the Haredi sect in 2013. Her goal was to create shoes that were both fashionable and comfortable. To build a comfy high-heeled shoe, she collaborated with a ski boot engineer and a German company that makes a gel NASA uses. For the Spring and Fall 2016 accessory collections, Haart partnered with La Perla.

Other works:

In the same year, she was appointed as the brand’s creative director. Haart pioneered a new approach to ready-to-wear for La Perla following her appointment as Creative Director. She designed the first stretch Leavers lace for La Perla and released a line of ready-to-wear lingerie with built-in support. Haart created a “La Perla Manor” runway show for her Fall/Winter 2017 fashion presentation, in which Naomi Campbell, Lindsey Wixson, Sasha Pivovarova, and Kendall Jenner walked. Haart is most recognized for designing Kendall Jenner’s Met Gala gown in 2017. The garment was made up of 85,000 crystals strung together on a single string.

Silvio Scaglia, the CEO and CCO of the talent media conglomerate Elite World Group, appointed her in March 2019. (EWG). EWG is now led by Haart. It has refocused the brand and launched new divisions under Haart’s leadership. EWG places a high priority on supporting models in monetizing their brands and commercial ventures. Haart is also the creative director of e1972, an EWG-launched luxury fashion label.
