Know what happened in the day 8 of Tokyo Olympics 2021

Today Lovlina Borgohain became the star of the show as she assured India a medal in women’s boxing in the 69 kg category. Lovlina Borgohain had to compete with Chinese Taipei’s Nien Chin Chen. Borgohain showed brilliant performance against the opponent and booked her place in the semifinals and she has assured India a medal in the women’s boxing in the 69 kg category. Lovlina won the first round 3-2. 3 out of 5 judges gave the verdict in favor of Lovlina. She was also dominant in round 2 and round 3 she secured a 4-1 win and sealed her place in the semifinal. She will now compete in her semifinals on August 4.

PV Sindhu also defeated Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the street games and also booked a place in the semi-finals of women’s individual events. Sindhu won the first game 21-13. In the second game, it was a tough competition against the Yamaguchi but PV Sindhu gave her best and won the game 22-20. The game lasted for 56 minutes. PV Sindhu is great as she has not lost a single game in the tournament. Now, PV Sindhu will play in the semi-finals on July 31.

Also not to forget that the Indian women’s hockey team defeated Ireland 1-0 and picked up a crucial win. Thanks to Navneet Kaur as her goal in the fourth quarter made them win. 

By watching today’s games Indian Olympic fans gained hope of winning a medal for India. Even though some players are just a few steps away from winning a medal, some players also find it hard to face the loss.

Unfortunately, boxer Simranjit Kaur got defeated by Sudaporn Seesondee in the three-quarter finals of women’s boxing in the 60 kg category and she made an early exit from the Olympic games. 

On the other hand, Indian shooters, Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat lost the 25-meter pistol qualification (rapid-fire stage). Both of them finished outside the top eight, that is, Manu Bhaker finished at 15th and Rahi Sarnobat finished at 32nd, and hence the Indian shooters will return home empty-handed for the second time at the Olympics. 

World number 1 women’s Archer Deepika Kumari competed against Ksenia Perova and defeated her. The match was tied at 5-5 but the Indian fired a 10 while the Russian fired a 7. The next match of Deepika was with the gold medalist winner in the mixed and women’s team event in Tokyo, An San. But unfortunately, Deepika lost 6-0 to the top seed An San of South Korea. An San aimed a perfect 30 (10,10,10), while Deepika aimed only 27 (7,10,10). In the second round, San scored 26 (9,10,7) and Deepika on the other hand, was able to score 24 (10,7,7). In the third round, the dominance of San continued as the South Korean Archer scored 26 and Deepika scored 24. The match ended within 6 minutes. Deepika lost the first set 30-27, second set 26-24,  3rd set 26-24. Now San will take the next step to the semifinals and Deepika Kumari has lost and knocked out of the quarter-finals. An San defeated world number one Deepika in dominating fashion 6-0 and took her step to the semifinals of the individual event.
