Timberlake was familiar with Bass because his vocal teacher had previously worked with him while he was with the Mississippi Show Stoppers. Bass auditioned and was accepted for the band, prompting him to drop out of high school and relocate to Orlando, Florida.

He started practising every day, which was crucial because Bass was lagging behind his comrades in terms of dance.

Bass was almost fired from the band after a recording executive asked that he be removed because of his dancing, but his comrades refused to sign a contract unless Bass was included. They eventually signed the contract and relocated to Germany to begin recording their debut album.
