In 2012, Kirk Cousins made two major life decisions: he signed with the NFL and he met his future wife, Julie Hampton.
Having begun his professional career with the Washington Commanders (then known as the Redskins), Cousins eventually became acquainted with Hampton through a common friend, the couple got married in June 2014.
“I didn’t want a long engagement,” explained Cousins to The Washington Post in December 2013, right after proposing to Hampton. “But it’s obviously important to her to prepare for the wedding and have the time she wants and has dreamed about. But I think it will be fun to have the whole family in one place for a day. And I just want her to be happy and have a positive mindset for the years to come.”
Since their wedding, the couple – parents to sons Cooper and Turner – has dedicated their spare time to philanthropy as co-founders of the Julie and Kirk Cousins Foundation, which works with organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs of America and International Justice Mission.
They are also both animal lovers and have fostered several dogs in recent years. In 2019, they adopted a Labrador Retriever named Abe, who quickly became a beloved member of the family. “We’ve tried all different breeds and sizes, and we’ve enjoyed it,” Hampton shared in an interview published on the Vikings’ website in 2022. “But Abe is fantastic.”
