The men’s double players who represented India, Chirag Shetty, and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, today were defeated by Indonesian pair Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo, who is also known as the world’s number one pair for badminton. The world’s number one pair, Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo, defeated the Indian per bi 21-13, 21-12, in their second group A play stage match. The world’s number one pair was really strong and also they played the first game quite easily while Chirag and Satwik were not able to face them well in the second game and ended up losing the match in straight games. The world’s number 10 Indian duo tried their best but were not able to fight against the number one duo. The match was for about 32 minutes.
After the match, Shetty said that they both were playing kind of well in the first and second games but there was a point where they somehow messed up and they feel that they have given up some easy points. According to Satwik, he said that they both have improved their way of servicing and they think that they are more steady now than before. Although their opponent was really very good at servicing, but, they too tried their best.
Now the Indian duo will compete against Great Britain’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy India in the next pool match which is on Tuesday. Both of their matches have been lost by Lane and Vendy. The Indonesian seemed very well prepared against Satwik and Chirag. Then in fact moved from defence to attack in quick minutes. In fact, the Indonesian duo had great interceptions. During the game, Chirag also had a toe injury. And there was a brief stoppage in the game. But after the game resumed, they gave their best. But it was heart to defeat the top seeds.
The match started with both the parties being equal with each other till 6-6. But then the Indonesian duo earned 5 straight points so quickly. Also, Sukamuljo was using his high racket speed, adding perfection to the game. When the score was at 9-13 Chirag had to undergo medical treatment after he hurt his toe. After resumption, the game became even more interesting. The Indonesian duo had a three point lead after the former knocked the shuttle to Satwik’s body. Thus the duo tricked the Indians to commit some errors and move to 15-10. The net error was committed by the Indian duo and thus it gave the Indonesians match points. The Indonesian duo sealed the match when Chirag went to the net.
It is worth knowing that the Indian duo had won their debut Olympic match against Chinese Taipei pair Lee yang and Wang Chi Lin who is also known for being a world number 3 duo. The Indian duo at world number 10 had a stunning 21-16, 16-21, 27-25 win over world number 3 Lee and Wang.
