Praveen Kumar returns with a Silver medal and Asian record in men’s high jump T64

Praveen Kumar makes all his fans and the entire India proud by getting a silver medal in the men’s high jump T64 event. The high jump event in the prestigious games of Tokyo Paralympics was conducted on Friday, and as Praveen Kumar has got one more silver medal for the country, he has now taken India’s overall Paralympic medal tally to 11.  The 18-year-old player from India made an Asian record during the event. In this Paralympic event, the high jump he was seen jumping was 2.07m. 

Ever since this amazing news reached India many of his fans have sent many congratulatory messages to him and also the 18-year old received a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his official Twitter account to congratulate Praveen. As the Indian player is coming back to the country with a great achievement that has made the history of prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted “Proud of Praveen Kumar for winning the Silver medal at the #Paralympics. This medal is the result of his hard work and unparalleled dedication. Congratulations to him. Best wishes for his future endeavors. #Praise4Para.” 

Praveen Kumar’s amazing achievement was in the classification of the T64 which is only for the athletes who have leg amplification. The 18-year-old athlete Praveen Kumar was playing for the first time in the Paralympic games and he set a new vision record after finishing behind Great Britain’s Jonathan Broom Edwards who became the season’s best player with a jump of 2.10 m for the gold medal. He took the country’s haul to 11 in the ongoing game. Talking about the bronze medal it went to Rio games champion Maciej Lepatio who is from Poland and he produced an effort of 2.04 m. Also, athletes that compete under this classification complete with the prosthetics in a standing position.

T44, the disability classification that Kumar has but is eligible to compete in T64 classification, is only meant for athletes with a leg deficiency. Also, the athletes with leg length difference, impaired muscle power, or impaired passive range of movement in the legs are eligible to participate under this category. Praveen Kumar’s impairment is congenital and it affects the bones that connect the hip to the left leg. Well, the ongoing Games of the Paralympic  Games are turning out very well for India and also all the countries and from India doing their best to get at least a medal from their side to the country. Well, till now India has received two gold, and many of the fans are expecting more medals from the Indian players who are currently participating in the ongoing Paralympic Games. Also, the nation has so far got 6 silver medals along with 3 bronze medals from the Indian athletes.
