Today’s Olympics was full of power-packed performances. Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya especially shined in today’s performance in wrestling. Although he lost the gold medal round, he was able to win a silver medal for India in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya won the silver medal but he lost 4-7 to ROC’s (Russian Olympic Committee) Zaur Uguev in the men’s freestyle 57 kg final on Thursday. As Zaur is a world champion it was really hard to compete against him. Indian wrestler Ravi Dahiya was just some steps away from winning a gold medal, but unfortunately, as Uguev was strong enough, it was very hard to defeat him.
At first, both the wrestlers were really strong, the quick attacks, defenses, and perfect moves were making the game even more interesting. But then Uguev got 1 point as he pushed the Indian wrestler out of the playing area 2 times in the initial minutes. So for the first round, he took the 2-0 lead.
While talking about the second round Ravi made a good comeback and also Ravi took two points in the second round. But as the world champion wrestler immediately went into the advantage, he took two more points and led forward. So the points in the second round were 4-2. Ravi tried his best to make a comeback in the second round but unfortunately, Uguev did not give him a chance to do so. In the second period too, the ROC wrestler pushed Ravi Dahiya again and led by 5-2. This time too Ravi didn’t give up and tried to make a comeback but the world champion was ready enough to defend him well.
The ROC wrestler gave his best and then went up to 7-2 but Ravi too didn’t give up and he picked two points and made it 4-7. The Indian wrestler gave all his best and tried to perform the best but eventually, the world champion was a very hard competition and Uguev 7-4.
Ravi Dahiya’s win of a silver medal is the sixth medal of India in the Olympics. Although Ravi won the silver medal, he became the second Indian wrestler to win silver at the Olympics after Sushil Kumar. Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar won the silver in the London Olympics in 2012.
Earlier Ravi had fierce competition with Tigreros Urbano of Columbia in his 1/8 final bout so that he could make it to the quarter-finals. Then he successfully won the bout 13-2. Talking about the last 8th bout too, he had to compete with Georgi Valentino Vangelov of Bulgaria. But in this bout too Ravi proved that he is the best and he won over Georgi, by 14-4.
Then he had a match against Nurislam Sanayev of Kazakhstan and this was the semifinal match. Not this much was really interesting to see as he got pushed due to back foot in the last 3 minutes of the bout. But then the Indian wrestler was trailing 7-9, but by using some of his tactics, he managed to win with just 40 seconds remaining by pinning his opponent.
