Before its premiere in theatres next year, Insidious 5 has begun filming, and some intriguing individuals have joined the cast.
In October 2020, the fifth film was formally announced, and Patrick Wilson, the sequel’s star, will make his directorial debut. The script was written by Scott Teems, who also contributed to Halloween Kills, and is based on a narrative by Teems and Leigh Whannell, who also co-created the franchise.
With the third and fourth films taking viewers back in time, Insidious 5 will reunite the Lambert family with their uncanny encounters from the first two films.
Some people might be surprised to learn that there will be a fifth Insidious film, the fourth film, Insidious: The Last Key, which had the lowest ratings of the entire series. However, that film too came to an end.
Even while it might not seem like much, the fourth movie reportedly only cost $10 million to make. A fifth film seems inevitable given that the series’ overall global box office receipts have exceeded $540 million on a stated overall budget of just over $25 million.
What can we anticipate from Insidious 5, though? Here is all the information you require.
Insidious 5 Release date
Assuming no timetable changes, Insidious five will open in theatres on July 7, 2023.
As previously reported, filming for the movie began in August 2022, so let’s hope there won’t be any delays.
The cast of Insidious 5
As Josh, Renai, and Dalton Lambert, respectively, Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Ty Simpkins will all return, but that is all we currently know about definite returns.
We anticipate Lin Shaye, who has played Elise Rainier throughout the series despite dying in the first film, to return as Elise’s ghost, along with Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson, who play Elise’s coworkers Specs and Tucker.
Shaye expressed her desire to return in September 2020, before the announcement of Insidious 5. She told ComingSoon.net, “I’m good with everything. If we return, I’m in The Further this time, so that will be different.
“It was a beautiful arc for me to find as the character and in the storyline… Now it’s in my memory, and I would love it if there were another one.”
Although it’s not yet known if Barbara Hershey will return to play Lorraine, Josh’s mother, in the upcoming film, three newcomers have been confirmed: Succession actor Hiam Abbass, Sinclair Daniel, and Peter Dager.
We haven’t yet determined who they will play.
The plot of Insidious 5
We received our first official synopsis for Insidious five along with the news that work had begun:
“Set ten years after the end of Insidious 2, Josh Lambert heads east to drop his son Dalton off at an idyllic, ivy-covered university. However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.”
Wilson did give some hints about what we may anticipate and how the fifth film relates to the events of the first two films while discussing why he chose to make Insidious 5 his directorial debut.
“We rarely get the opportunity to come back ten years later, especially if you think about the lore of Insidious and this family, specifically me and Ty, [with] our characters being hypnotized. What does that do to a family after ten years?” he explained.
“Watching Dalton go to college, and what does that do? Watching a young man go to college and all the new experiences and feeling like an outsider trying to fit in. He’s got this ability that he doesn’t even know of being an astral projector and traveler.
“After so long, are we still hypnotized? Is there still that trance? What does that do to your life? What does that do to your marriage? And then what does that do for a father and son relationship?”
In case you forgot, Josh and Dalton let their memories be suppressed once more at the end of Chapter 2, so they would forget everything about The Further and the demons it contains, such as the Bride in Black and Lipstick-Face Demon.
We’ll have to wait and see what convinces Josh and Dalton to return to the spirit world because we can’t imagine it being an Insidious movie without a trip into The Further.
Trailer
Insidious five has begun filming, but we won’t see any new footage for a time. Given that it’s a Blumhouse release, we may see a trailer for Halloween Ends in October 2022, but for the time being, it’s just a hunch.
The movie Insidious 5 debuts in theatres on July 7, 2023.
