Rowan Atkinson will return to the world of physical comedy in Man Vs Bee, a new Netflix series about a man’s battle with a pesky bug.
Thanks to the international success of the comic character Mr Bean, Atkinson is a familiar face to millions of fans all around the world, and Netflix will be hoping the actor can break through with global audiences.
Atkinson developed the series with the help of Will Davies, with whom he had worked on the Johnny English film franchise. In Netflix’s exciting new comedy, Man Vs Bee, Rowan Atkinson again demonstrates his hilarious genius.
Most of us are familiar with Atkinson’s portrayal of the lovable fool Mr Bean. He made us laugh with his great pranks and follies without saying a single word. Atkinson won honours and starred in a Mr Bean film before starring in Johnny English, an action-comedy.
In the new Netflix comedy Man Vs Bee, Rowan Atkinson uses his comedic ability to make us laugh till our ribs hurt.
Man Vs Bee Release date
Man Vs Bee will be available on Netflix on Friday, June 24, along with several other summer blockbusters. It will be divided into ten episodes, each lasting only ten minutes.
The cast of Man Vs Bee
Along with Rowan Atkinson, we now know who else will appear in Man Vs Bee. Jing Lusi, who starred in Crazy Rich Asians, has been cast in the role of mansion owner Nina, whose home is being housesat by Rowan Atkinson’s character.
Nina’s husband, Christian, is played by Julian Rhind-Tutt (Bridget Jones’s Baby), the Gardener is played by Greg McHugh (Fresh Meat), and White Lines star India Fowler plays a character named Maddy.
Trevor’s ex-wife is played by Claudie Blakley (Manhunt), while the Police Officer is played by Tom Basden (After Life).
Rowan explained in an interview with What To Watch how vital it was for Trevor to be distinct from his iconic comedy character Mr Bean, and whether or not people would make comparisons…
He stated, “I’d be surprised if people didn’t make comparisons because it’s me as a performer, in an essentially non-verbal space just like Mr Bean. I’ve only got one face, and there’s a limited number of expressions it can pull.
“But I hope people see Trevor as a distinct character from Mr Bean. I think Trevor’s a more three-dimensional, believable, more generous man, whereas Mr Bean is a self-regarding, narcissistic anarchist! Trevor isn’t like that.
“I can also confirm that Trevor ends up with a turkey on his head at no point!”
The plot of Man Vs Bee
In a statement, Netflix explained the idea of the new show: “In this hilarious comedy, renowned actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson plays a new character. While housesitting a magnificent estate, a guy finds himself at odds with a bee. Who will triumph, and how much irreversible harm will be done as a result?”
The show is one of several produced by Netflix in the UK, following the establishment of a UK team to develop production in the nation.
Original Series Vice President Anne Mensah expressed her thoughts as follows: “Setting up a team entirely based in the UK was always about being able to better connect to the fantastic program makers we have here — to provide a space for writers, producers, directors and actors that feels local, friendly and familiar but also provides talent the opportunity to make shows that will impact on a global scale.”
In honour of the imminent release of Man vs Bee, comedy veteran Rowan Atkinson has been immortalised in a unique Beano comic strip.
Story details:
Rowan returns to our screens with his first brand-new comedy persona in over ten years with this one-of-a-kind comic strip.
His central part as the hapless house sitter Trevor is now included in an iconic crossover. It is with the world’s longest-running comic to honour his first TV comedy invention in almost a decade.
The comic, which depicts Rowan as the series’ eponymous hero Trevor, is drawn by Beano illustrator Nigel Parkinson. Also, stars Rowan as an unfortunate house sitter who tries to take care of a beautiful property until chaos breaks out when a naughty bee invades it.
The comic transfers Trevor to Beanotown, where he meets up with several famous characters, including Dennis, Gnasher, Bea (Dennis’s baby sister), Minnie, Pieface, JJ, and Rubi, all of whom are inspired by his hilarious exploits from the show. The story follows Trevor as he attempts to housesit for the Mayor of Beanotown (Walter’s father). It is while his family is on vacation. On the other hand, Trevor humorously wrestles with a bee, leaving a trail of absolute damage in his wake.
He said, “Like many British school children, I was an avid Beano reader. Beano remains a unique piece of our pop culture. Also, something that has been shaped by and shaped British comedic sensibilities for over 80 years. I am thrilled that my alter ego, Trevor has been immortalised in the Beano world.”
The bee-spoke comic strip is only available on beano.com(opens in a new tab). Also, serves as a teaser for what’s to come before Man vs Bee hits theatres.
