For better or worse, everyone knows that Cobra Kai never dies. The fearless dojo appears to be growing stronger by the day following the events of the season four finale.
But, as their bullying tactics worsen, this isn’t necessarily a good thing. Can Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso finally unite their karate-loving students long enough to take down the valley’s most dangerous person and his violent lackeys? Cobra Kai Season 5 has already been confirmed, so here’s everything we know so far about what’s to come.
Cobra Kai season 5 release date:
We now have a release date for the Cobra Kai Season 5, and the team at Cobra Kai has surprised us with a new series much sooner than expected. Cobra Kai Season 5 will be released on September 9. Prepare your gis for some high-kicking fun.
This is a significant advancement in the show’s schedule, considering that since Netflix acquired Cobra Kai from YouTube Red/Premium, new seasons have debuted on New Year’s Day (season three) and New Year’s Eve (season four) (season four).
But, hey, we’re not complaining that it’s arriving a little earlier this year.
Cobra Kai season 5 cast:
The fragile frenemyship (frenemosity?) between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, played by Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, is central to Cobra Kai.
Their complicated rivalry began in the original Karate Kid in 1984, and Cobra Kai is based on their efforts to move on from decades of hating each other. So they’re back to finish what they started.
Throughout the series, their reunion has expanded to include Johnny’s former Cobra Kai sensei and original lousy guy John Kreese (Martin Kove), as well as his right-hand man-slash-mentor Terry Silver (as of season four) (Thomas Ian Griffith).
In Cobra Kai Season 5, Yuji Okumoto will return as Daniel’s Karate Kid II foe turned ally, Chozen. Peyton List (Tory) and Joe Seo (Kyler) will all return to represent team Cobra Kai following the events of season four.
Tanner Buchanan (Robby) will also return, but he will be caught between two worlds as he reconnects with his father.
Other cast members in Cobra Kai Season 5:
But keep an eye on Kenny (Dallas Dupree Young), a new addition to season four, transformed from a well-meaning, slightly nerdy newcomer into a vicious and bitter bully.
You have Sam (Mary Mouser), Eli/Hawk (Jacob Bertrand), and Demetri on your team (Gianni DeCenzo).
Miguel (Xolo Mariduea) will also return.
Daniel’s son, Anthony LaRusso (Griffin Santopietro), never showed much interest in karate until season four. In fact, because of its significance in his father’s life, he has resented it. But he’s been drawn into the world more than ever after he and his friends turned on new kid Kenny, pushing him into Cobra Kai’s arms so he could fight back.
He fought back – in a big, brutal way. Anthony may have no choice but to finally learn Miyagi-Do to defend himself against what lies ahead with Kenny at school, who has sworn to deliver a “world of pain.” Stingray (Paul Walter Hauser), the immature older member of Cobra Kai who reappeared after being absent in season three, is another character to watch for in Cobra Kai Season 5.
Cobra Kai Recap
The season four finale of Cobra Kai was a game-changer, with Terry Silver betraying Kreese and getting him arrested.
The arrest for the Stingray attack effectively kicks Silver out of Cobra Kai and the planned expansion, as the formerly zen-loving Silver reverts to his cruel ways. Silver is a new threat, and unlike Kreese, he doesn’t appear to have an apparent weakness. This is made worse by the fact that Miyago-Do is no longer a functioning dojo due to their bet on the All-Valley tournament. With Robby in tow, Johnny jumps in his car and drives down to the border to find him, but with everything in his life falling apart in California, does he even want to be found? And, above all, does he want to see his long-time rival Robby (who, to be fair, broke his back in a school brawl back in season two)?
According to co-showrunners Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, the biggest game-changer is the return of Chozen from Karate Kid II, who appeared in the final moments of season four to help Daniel and save Miyagi-Do.
Cobra Kai season 5 plot:
In the Cobra Kai Season 5 trailer, we see him follow through on his intention to turn Cobra Kai into a dominant dojo franchise throughout the State Valley. That is to say, he is
On the other hand, Tory may hold the key, knowing Silver paid off the referee who gave Cobra Kai the victory. Will her hard exterior softening prove to be the catalyst for her departure from the squad?
The transformation of Kenny from a LARP-loving nerd to a bitterly vicious Cobra Kai kid spells disaster for Anthony LaRusso. He needs to start paying attention to his father’s teachings now that he’s got warning about what awaits him at school.
Meanwhile, Johnny is preoccupied with locating Miguel, who fled to Mexico to visit his father… who is unaware of his existence.
“Chozen is somebody who ties into the more aggressive past where fighting wasn’t about a contest, and it was about life and death. He still feels like he owes Daniel some help, and he wants to make amends even though Daniel has forgiven him,” they told TVLine.
“From that alone, I feel like audiences can infer the energy with which season five will begin. There are quite a few storylines that start spinning very fast and very aggressively as we enter next season.”
Cobra Kai season 5 trailer:
With Miyagi-Do closing, Silver has wasted no time expanding the Cobra Kai franchise across the valley.
Fortunately, Daniel has Chozen on his side, who isn’t afraid to challenge him. Silver warns him in one tense standoff that he’s playing with fire, to which he responds that he’s gasoline.
Meanwhile, Robby and Johnny are on their way to Mexico to find Miguel after he’s missing. However, tensions between Miguel and Robby are high. Seasons 1–4 of Cobra Kai are available on Netflix.
