The next Marvel superhero movie, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, stars Scott Lang, played by Paul Rudd, who can shrink to the size of an atom.
The official release date, a teaser trailer, the cast, and other details for the movie were all revealed during Marvel’s weekend appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Release date
We now know that Quantumania, which stars Rudd in the title role as Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, in her big-screen debut as The Wasp, will launch Marvel’s Phase Five on February 17, 2023. Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas, and Janet Van Dyne, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, will participate in the family-friendly exploration of the Quantum Realm in the movie.
The cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
The sub-atomic-sized journey includes “interacting with bizarre new creatures and going on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they believed imaginable,” according to the official Marvel website.
We also know Cassie Lang, played by Kathryn Newton, Scott’s daughter, will participate in the exploration. Even though Newton was at SDCC, she kept her mouth shut about Cassie’s part in the next film and the nature of the relationship between the character and her father:
“Cassie is becoming who she’s supposed to be. And I don’t want to say anything else!” Newton said. In that same image, another character revealed towering menacingly in the background: Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors. They made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the Disney Plus series Loki. Kang appears to be the MCU’s next Thanos-calibre antagonist; at SDCC, it was confirmed that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, one of the Phase Six movies, will not be released until 2025.
Other details:
Kang was also identified as a villain character that will appear in the film, while descriptions of the teaser trailer also identified MODOK as a villain character. Even though MODOK’s appearance was unmistakable, as of this writing, it is still unknown who will portray the part. Last but not least, Bill Murray, a well-known actor, joins the cast of Quantumania in an unspecified role, according to the movie’s IMDb website. According to The Direct, Murray’s covert identity is as a citizen of a society residing in the Quantum Realm.
We sincerely hope that the cast members from the first Ant-Man movie, its sequel, or both would appear in Quantumania, but they have not yet been formally out. The cast members are below:
- Michael Peña’s Luis
- T.I.’s Dave
- David Dastmalchian’s Kurt
- Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo
- Bobby Cannavale’s Paxton
- Judy Greer’s Maggie
- Hannah John-Kamen’s Ava, aka Ghost
The plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Given that Scott was far from Cassie for five years after becoming in the Quantum Realm during the blip, as in Avengers: Endgame (where Cassie was then by Emma Fuhrmann), we could easily see Quantumania’s story addressing their estrangement and mending their father-daughter bond.
Despite Newton remaining largely silent throughout the conference, Deadline has previously revealed Cassie will be a superhero in Quantumania, possessing “the same talents as her father: the capacity to shrink and grow” and going by the alias of Stature. Fans have already deduced from the movie’s poster that she is the protagonist because she wears an article of purple clothing identical to Scott’s and matching Converse sneakers to complete the ensemble.
Trailer
Murray’s position in Quantumania is in details from the exclusive teaser at SDCC, which would seem to rule out him playing MODOK.
Sadly, Marvel Studios has not yet made the teaser available to the general public in its entirety. Some leaks have appeared, but we won’t republish them because the quality is so poor that it’s difficult to tell what happens when watching the mobile phone-captured video. Additionally, it appears that the disclosures we have already seen are insufficient. However, there are some detailed accounts of what transpired in the teaser.
According to The Wrap, the teaser opens with Scott Lang utilising his participation in the fight against Thanos to help rescue the Earth as a springboard for achieving “international celebrity.” In what was as a “heartwarming moment,” this has become so bad that Scott even writes a book called Watch Out for the Little Guy!
With a comment from Rudd from a panel that summed up his character’s beginnings in the movie, the Marvel website announced the title of the book that Scott wrote within the movie:
“Scott is pretty happy with himself in his role with saving the universe.”
Later, Scott learns from a phone call from the San Francisco Police Department. That things change from that very Rock II-like beginning.
According to The Wrap, Scott saves Cassie, and they all eat supper at the Pyms’ house while other characters roast him comically. It is for “constantly stating he rescued the world.”
The heroes’ group then starts participating in some science experiment, ending with Cassie being “sucked into a vortex.” Scott and the rest of the group are similarly drawn into the vortex.
