The plot of the Essex Serpent

The Essex Serpent is a six-part television series set in 1893 that follows newly-widowed Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes, shown above), who is finally free of an oppressive marriage when her husband dies. Cora relocates from London to the small Essex village of Aldwinter, where she becomes fascinated by a local legend that a supernatural creature is known as the “Essex Serpent” has returned. Cora investigates the myths surrounding this mythological sea dragon, a type of dinosaur that has defied extinction.

However, she quickly clashes with Will Ransome (Tom Hiddleston), the local vicar, determined to put superstition to rest in his rural parish, dealing with the terrifying rumors as they spread throughout the town… The Essex Serpent began filming in February 2021 in London and several locations in Essex, including Alresford, Brightlingsea, and North Fambridge. The production has also visited Essex with some outdoor scenes shot in Maldon’s Promenade Park Film crews were on hand to transform the neighborhood into something straight out of the 1800s. In the park, large white marquees were also built.

Along with Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, and Patrick Walters, they act as executive producers. See-Saw Films created the series for Apple TV+.
