This is all that happened in Tokyo Olympics 2020 day 2!

As day 1 was quite interesting to watch for all the Olympics fans out there, for day 2, we can notice a lot of interest from Indians.

Today India’s best weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won India’s first medal at Tokyo 2020. She won a silver medal in the women’s 49 kg category as she lifted 86 kg. However, the gold medal was won by China’s Hou Zhihui as she lifted 94 kg at the final attempt. But Mirabai made a new Olympic record by successfully lifting 115 kg in clean and jerk. 

Unfortunately world number two shooter Saurabh Chaudhary became the second shooter to be eliminated from the men’s 10m air pistol final; he finished 7th in the 8 shooter final. Saurabh Chaudhary had a total score of 137.4 and faced an earlier elimination. The best women Indian shooters Elavanil Valarivan and Apurvi Chandela were not able to reach the finals of the women’s 10-meter air rifle. 

Elavil finished at 16th and scored 626.5 points over 6 series of 10 shots each, and Apurvi Chandela finished 36th after scoring 621.9 at the Asaka Range.

In the single event of table tennis, Manika Batra won against Tin-Tin Ho. In the doubles round, Sharath Kamal and Manika Batra lost against Chinese Taipei pair Yun Ju Lin and Ching I Cheng in the round of the 16th clash in the mixed doubles event. In tennis, Sumit Nagal won the first round of singles against gold medalist Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan. 

Sumit Nagal became the first Indian to win a tennis single match. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had a difficult competition against the world no. 3 of Chinese Taipei pair Yang Lee and ChiLin Wang for the men’s badminton doubles, but successfully defeated them and won. But on the other hand, in badminton men’s singles, player Sai Praneeth was not able to defeat Israel’s, Misha Zilberman. 

While in men’s hockey, India defeats New Zealand 3-2 in the Pool A match. Deepika Kumari and Pravin Jadhav were not able to defeat An San and Kim Je Deok in Archery. 

Sushila Devi, Indian Judoka lost to Eva Csernoviczki of Hungarian. In boxing, Vikas Krishnan will fight against Japanese boxer Mensah Okazawa. Okazawa fought fiercely with Vikas and won the first two rounds. And at the last round, due to the fierce competition of Mensah, Vikas was not able to stand out, hence lost the game and crashed out of Tokyo Olympics.
