In season two of Upload, Nathan’s (Robbie Amell) afterlife proves to be much more perplexing and chaotic than most people’s real lives… and it appears that things will only grow more convoluted.
A notion that, while futuristic, irresistibly chimes with the Black Mirror-style sense that this is only moments away from becoming a reality and is immensely relatable even if the technology isn’t there yet?
The cliffhanger ending of Upload season two left us with many unanswered questions and even some lives on the line. As a result, fans who binge-watched the new seven-episode season will have a lot of expectations for season three and beyond.

Upload season 3’s release date:
There’s good news! The Upload has been announced to return for a Upload Season 3 as of May 2022.
Amazon’s Head of Global TV, Vernon Sanders, commented (via Deadline) in a statement welcoming the show’s renewal:
“Upload has become a bonafide hit that continues to be one of the most-watched comedy originals on Prime Video. The series continues to connect and provoke endless possibilities for the future of technology and humanity.
“With Greg’s distinct comedic take along with the dynamic creative team and talented actors, they’ve made a globally relevant series which we’re all incredibly proud to bring back another season for our customers.”
Writer Greg Daniels had made no secret that he had hoped for more episodes, even admitting to being back writing season three before the second season even aired.
At the time, he was also writing Netflix comedy Space Force, which has now been canceled.

“I’m in the middle of scripting season three with the room,” Daniels told Collider ahead of the release of season two. We’ve made it halfway. So I’m optimistic that it’ll just keep moving forward.
“I mean [Prime Video] are very excited about the second-season episodes, and that’s one of the reasons why we’re deep in the writing of it… It’s a very visual-effects-heavy show, and so even though we shot it before Space Force, it’s coming out the month after Space Force because so much visual-effects work makes the post process very long.
“So they really want to get on it so season three can happen as quickly as we can make it happen.”
On confirmation the show will continue, he said: “I’m thrilled to continue the story of Nathan and Nora and the other residents of Lakeview and near-future America as they try to have fun and do the right thing in both the real and virtual worlds.”
Upload season 3 cast
The Upload Season 3 has three primary players, all expected to return.
Robbie Amell stars as Nathan, a tech whiz-turned-dead guy who is suddenly (kind of) back to life and living in a regular, non-virtual reality.
There’s also his love interest to consider. Nora (Andy Allo) is a virtual-reality worker who, on her father’s suggestion, has joined the anti-tech group The Ludds. She has, however, proven to be a capable leader and is currently near the top of the anarchist movement.
Ingrid (Allegra Edwards), Nathan’s now-ex-girlfriend, isn’t done either, and she’ll go to any length to keep him around. She spent most of season two in a tricked-out scuba suit in a bathtub, allowing her to stay in Lakeview without inquiry, pretending to upload into the virtual Lakeview world to stay close to him.
If we return to Lakeview, we’ll see more of Kevin Bigley, who plays Nathan’s ‘bestie’ Luke, and Owen Daniels, the long-running AI Guy whose visage can be found all over the system.
Aleesha (Zainab Johnson), Nora’s best friend, is also likely to return, depending on her alliance in her profession as an upload angel and her connection with Nora.
Upload season 3 plot:
As we’ve previously stated, season two of Upload finishes on a cliffhanger when Nathan gets downloaded into a clone body constructed according to Ingrid’s specifications.
Ingrid arranged for Nathan’s body to be regrown in an exceedingly risky treatment in a desperate attempt to keep him after realizing she couldn’t continue living the upload life. It has a meager success rate, with only a few pigeons currently winning.
Nathan spends much of season two trying to figure out why he was murdered to stop his future program, Beyond, from allowing poor people to upload freely.
It turns out that it’s all for political purposes. Because uploads do not have the right to vote because their lives have technically ended. Also, a malevolent firm called Freeyond set up dozens of clinics in swing states. It is to allow the poor and desperate to upload into a new existence – away from voting booths.
If they succeed, hundreds of crucial votes will have to maintain some political titans in power.

Nathan seeks help from the Ludds and decides to download into the body despite the risk of death to assist Nora in stopping Freeyond before it’s too late.
His scheme succeeds initially, and Nora and Nathan eventually join the Ludds aboard a train destined for Freeyond.
Nathan’s nose begins to bleed in the closing seconds, indicating that his new body rejects the downloaded soul. Ingrid also begins a recent power move after realizing she’s lost him. By taking hairs from his hairbrush to grow a new Nathan from the ground up.
Season three will most likely begin right after this choice. Also, with Nathan and Nora racing against the clock to save him before it’s too late.
It’ll also be heavily political and take place outside of Lakeview. As the gang decides what to do next in their attempt to overthrow Friend.
The interview for Upload Season 3:
In an interview with The Wrap, Daniels said: “Like Schrödinger’s Cat, when we open the box, we’ll see if the cat was alive or dead, but at the moment, the cat is both alive and over, you know?
“I feel like it could be played out in a certain number of episodes and then in a certain different number of episodes, as long as there’s constantly enough pull forward and enough reveals.”
He said, “I have to say that the specific details of the mystery plot are something that we worked out over the course of a lot of discussions and planting of clues and different possibilities,” he stated.
“I don’t think we’re at the complete end of the mystery, I will just say. In hopeful optimism of a season three, I’m plotting more stuff now with some writers.”
Andy Allo, meanwhile, has a particular idea of where she wants Nora’s story to go.
Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: “I think I’d want to see Nora become really radicalised in a way and wanting to take down the whole thing. I want some action, go real rebel mode and be like, ‘Rah, let’s burn it all down’.”
“I’m in a tough position to answer that at the end of season two,” said Amell. “I will say that Greg has a pretty good track record for what he does, and I feel like we’re in good hands. Whatever Greg thinks will probably be the best version of the show.”
