141 Dead, Gujarat Bridge Was Disaster Waiting To Happen

On Sunday, a nearly century-old suspension bridge spanning the Machchhu River in Gujarat's Morbi town suddenly gave way. 

A total of 134 people have been confirmed dead, with two others still missing, police said. 

The rescue team is out looking for you. This coming Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi will travel to the city of Morbi. 

Meanwhile, a panel has been established to look into the matter further. 

On top of that, an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the surviving family members of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured has been announced.

The Gujarat Chief Minister's Office announced on Twitter on Monday that the Prime Minister would be visiting Morbi that afternoon.

Large numbers of people were gathered on the bridge.
