Dhanteras, also called Dhantrayodashi

It is a major Hindu festival that kicks off the festivities leading up to Diwali. 

Dhanteras is the celebration of good fortune and success. 

Dhan means "wealth," and Teras is the Thirteenth Day. 

On this day, also known as Dhanatrayodashi, the five-day Diwali celebration begins. 

On this day, during the Samundra Manthan, the Goddess Lakshmi is said to have emerged from the ocean of milk. 

On this day, people buy brass, silver, and gold in the hopes that these precious metals will shield them from harm and usher in prosperity and good fortune.
