India Conducts Agni V Trials Days After China Clashes

Despite heightened tensions with China following last week's clashes along the de facto border in Arunachal Pradesh

sources in the Defence Ministry said on Thursday

India had successfully conducted night trials of the Agni V nuclear-capable ballistic missile, which can hit targets beyond 5,400 km.

They noted that the test verified the missile's improved range thanks to the integration of new technologies and equipment.

A ballistic missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead was launched from Abdul Kalam Island in the state of Odisha.

According to Defense Ministry sources, the latest flight of the Agni V missile, which first took off in 2012, was a routine test.

The test was conducted after the clashes had already occurred, but it had been planned for quite some time.
