India Conducts Agni V Trials Days After China Clashes
Despite heightened tensions with China following last week's clashes along the de f
acto border in Arunachal Pradesh
sources in the Defence Ministry said on Thursday
India had successfully conducted night trials of the Agni V nuclear-capable ballistic mis
sile, which can hit targets beyond 5,400 km.
They noted that the test verified the missile's improved range thanks to the integration of new technologies and equipment.
A ballistic missile capable of delivering a nuclear warhead was launched from Abdul Kalam Island in the state of Odisha.
According to Defense Ministry sources, the latest flight of the Agni V missile, which first took off in 2012,
was a routine test.
The test was conducted after the clashes had already occurred, but it had
been planned for quite some time.
