Turkey Could Have Moved 5 Meters After The Violent Earthquake

Over seventy-two hours after one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent history struck

Turkey, rescue efforts are still ongoing non-stop, and seismologists are now claiming that the country may have moved as much as six metres relative to Syria.

The tectonic plates upon which the country is situated may have been the source of the tremors.

After the horizontal sliding of the two plates caused the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey and Syria

Italian seismologist Professor Carlo Doglioni claimed that Turkey had actually slipped by five to six metres relative to Syria.

Earthquake intensity was increased by the relative movement of the Anatolian and Arabica plates

which shifted in a southwesterly direction, triggering the quake.
