Vikram Kirloskar, Toyota’s India Pillar, Dies At 64

Vice-chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor and the man credited with convincing the Japanese automaker to place its money on India

Vikram Kirloskar, passed away late Tuesday night.

One of the most successful partnerships in India's booming but turbulent auto sector, Toyota Kirloskar Motors, has been cast into doubt

The joint venture between the Japanese automaker and an Indian partner has survived for over a quarter of a century

due in large part to the trust Toyota placed in Kirloskar.

Contrast the Toyota-Kirloskar partnership saga with the experiences of other international automakers trying to establish a foothold in India.

With the initial capital injection into the new JV, Kirloskar's stake in Toyota Kirloskar quickly dropped to 11%, and it has remained at that level ever since.
