It’s also the beginning of the end,” the Duffer brothers stated. They shared the news in an open letter to fans on Thursday, 17th February. “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but we are now hurtling towards our finale, as you’ll soon see for yourself. Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last.”
They added: “Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging season yet, but also the most rewarding one. Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

“But it impacted very positively by allowing the Duffer brothers, for the first time ever, to write the entire season before we shoot it and to have time to rewrite in a way that they rarely had before so the quality of these screenplays are exceptional, maybe better than ever.” The shooting process also goes on at a very slow rate because of the safety measures. “It’s definitely a slower process than usual, which is really saying something because we take our sweet time making the show anyway. So it’s not as steady paced or as consistent as I think any of us would like it to be, but we do our best and we’re playing it by ear,” Matarazzo told People. “And I think the most important thing is that when we’re working, we’re all staying safe.”
