Yuzvendra Chahal opens up about omission from India’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad!

Well, the news of Yuzvendra Chahal not being a part of India’s T20 World Cup 2021 hit the headlines and left the fans shocked. It is true that leg-break bowler has been India’s lead spinner in white-ball cricket and has a huge fan following for sure. His bowling on the Sri Lanka tour was surely amazing and it seemed that he was back on track. However, the selectors didn’t pick the 31-year-old player despite the tournament happening in the pitches of UAE as well as Oman. Many noticed that the selectors’ decision hadn’t gone down well with Chahal. The BCCI selectors named five spin-bowling options in India’s 15-man squad including Ravichandran Ashwin, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Rahul Chahar. They will handle the spin department in the gala tournament.

The BCCI chief selector Chetan Sharma spoke about Chahal’s omission and said that the spinners who bowl quickly were prioritized in the selection procedure. Well, after this statement was made, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) leg-spinner posted something on his social media handler that took the internet by storm. He replied to a tweet from the cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra, and took a cheeky dig at the demand for ‘faster spinners.’ Chopra also noted the spinners who bowl quickly will get success in the UAE leg of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and Chahal questioned it by stating the requirement of ‘faster spinners’ “Faster spinner bhaiya? #justkidding,” he commented alongside a laughing emoji jokingly.

Yuzvendra Chahal is indeed a well-cherished player of India and also India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is. Well, his remarks went viral in no time as netizens and his fans were sure that the leg-spinner is not happy as he is not a part of the squad. For the unversed, Chahal is India’s highest wicket-taker in the shortest international format. He has scalped 63 wickets in 49 games in total. Chahal also clearly spoke up about his omission from the India squad and said “Bad form was playing on my mind a bit, especially after the IPL. I sat down with my wife Dhanashree who helped me. She told me that every day you won’t take wickets, it’s just a bad phase,” Chahal said on Aakash Chopra’s official YouTube channel.

He also said “I knew that I was bowling well but sometimes in T20 cricket, it’s very hard to take wickets if a batsman doesn’t attack. It affects you when you don’t have wickets to show in the column.” Talking about the fans of cricket, many are still left confused regarding the decision made to not have Yuzvendra Chahal in the India squad. Although he had ups and downs in his journey being a part of the Indian cricket team, his skills are something that his fans are truly proud of.
