HBO is developing a Jon Snow sequel series based on the hit HBO show “Game of Thrones.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has begun early development on its first sequel to its blockbuster fantasy drama: a live-action spinoff series centred on fan favourite character Jon Snow. Should a series be made, Kit Harington is set to reprise his role. For his portrayal of an action hero who tries to uphold his family’s moral beliefs in a terrible world, the actor received two Emmy nominations.

Jon Snow learnt his true name was Aegon Targaryen, a potential heir to the Iron Throne, in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. He was expelled from Westeros in the series finale and joined the Wildlings north of the Wall to leave his former life behind.

Harington has starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, co-starring in 2021’s Eternals, following his involvement on Game of Thrones for eight seasons. In addition, he recently played Henry V in a live presentation at the National Theater. On Game of Thrones, he was recognised for enduring some of the show’s most difficult filming, including the infamous 11-week winter night shoots in Northern Ireland during the final season. The move signals an intriguing new direction in HBO’s handling of author George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe, similar to Disney+’s handling of its Star Wars and Marvel brands, where the streamer has found success launching character-focused sequel series like WandaVision (starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (starring Ewan McGregor reprising his iconic role).

Story plot of the series

The proposal would upend Thrones’ final season as the ultimate word on the destinies of the remaining characters in HBO’s most popular and Emmy-winning series of all time, perhaps most daringly from a creative standpoint. Other surviving characters from the Game of Thrones universe, such as Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), and Brienne of Tarth, may theoretically appear as a result of the initiative (Gwendoline Christie). In addition to the upcoming House of the Dragon prequel series, which premieres Aug. 21, this development news implies that there are currently seven Thrones projects in progress. Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and depicts the narrative of a civil war within House Targaryen.10,000 Ships (aka Nymeria), directed by Amanda Segel, 9 Voyages (aka The Sea Snake), directed by Bruno Heller, and Dunk and Egg, directed by Steve Conrad, are among HBO’s other live-action prequels in various stages of development.

The Golden Empire, located in the China-inspired nation of Yi Ti, is one of three animated prequel projects, first revealed by THR.

What could happen in the Jon Snow ‘Game of Thrones’ sequel series?

After being banished for killing Danaerys Targaryen, Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow was [spoiler] on his way to Beyond the Wall. You might wonder who expelled him. Of course, King Bran the Broken, Jon’s cousin (and former half-brother), currently sits on the molten Iron Throne. HBO is producing this new Jon Snow series despite the fact that several fans despise Bran’s reign as king.

Would this sequel series follow in the footsteps of Disney+’s new Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Jon Snow alone on a major journey Beyond the Wall, or will something draw him back to Westeros, perhaps even to King’s Landing?

Here are the 5 things that can happen in the show

Check. Is there going to be more of the same? We wish to be optimistic.

Kit Harrington’s reappearance is incredible. We’re actually looking forward to the premiere of the new show as a result of it. Will any of the original cast members make a cameo appearance? Remember that in the closing minutes of the final episode, viewers saw Jon Snow heading Beyond the Wall with Tormund Giantsbane (Kristofer Hivju). If we had to guess, we’d say he’ll most likely/hopefully be in the upcoming season as well.  The plot of the series dictates what happens next. Is it something to do with Jon’s upbringing in the north? Is he going to a far-flung location in the East? All of this has an impact on how much of the original cast appears in the film. If Jon is dragged south of the Wall into Westeros, for example, we may get to see many of our old favourites from the first season.

Ghost is back!

One of the most common criticisms about the final season is that there isn’t enough of Jon Snow’s good boy, Ghost, in the new series. Since his first appearance as a charming little albino pup, the enormous direwolf has been a fan favourite. However, as the seasons progressed, the full-grown, 3-meter-tall wolf became less visible. In the new show, he’ll undoubtedly be by Jon’s side?

Consider this scenario: Jon is on the hunt for Drogon.

Drogon, Daenerys’ dragon, melted the Iron Throne and seized Dany’s body before fleeing the last time we saw him. He was later observed flying east, according to further reports. Drogon was heading toward Volantis, according to Game of Thrones showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff in the season eight DVD commentary. Fans speculate that this could lead to Kinvara, the crimson priestess, resurrecting Daenarys.

Isn’t there a gap in time?

Since the age of adolescence, Jon Snow has been at odds with something or someone.

Banishment may appear to be a horrible thing, but it is actually a chance for him to calm down and relax. However, if there isn’t much action, the show won’t be very entertaining. Between the events of season eight and the start of the new series, he should at least receive some R&R. We like to think he moved somewhere to start a new village with the last wildings and raise his own wild children.

Bran is a bad guy.

So, will HBO try to repair the flaws and give fans a sequel that may double as a final season, or will it give us a beautiful six-hour adventure story with one of the most beloved characters from the original Game of Thrones show?  If that be the case, there is one less-than-crazy option: It could indicate that the winner of Game of Thrones was actually the evil guy all along. All through the airing of the last season, it was hypothesised in forums and among fan circles that Bran would turn out to be the one in charge of the Night King and the White Walkers. In season eight, however, this was never revealed.

But, first and foremost, let’s be clear. Fans can conjecture and wonder whether he was using his powers to control the Night King and White Walkers, or perhaps to drive Daenarys insane and destroy the city, because the strength of his powers is now unknown. What, after all, was the outcome of a last season’s chaos? The Iron Throne is sat on by Bran.

If Bran is purely despicable and it has been the puppet behind all of the awful things that have happened in Game of Thrones, it’s logical to assume that more of the original actors will return in the new show. At a bare least, we’d meet King Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright), Tyrion, Hand to the King (Peter Dinklage), and Samuel Tarley, Bran’s Grand Maester (John Bradley).

It’d be incredible to see Bran decide that living in exile with a family of Targaryens – like Jon Snow (and possibly his wife and children) – is too dangerous for him. Meanwhile, Jon Snow might discover the truth about Bran and embark on a mission to stop his evil cousin and erstwhile brother.
