According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has begun early development on its first sequel to its blockbuster fantasy drama: a live-action spinoff series centred on fan favourite character Jon Snow. Should a series be made, Kit Harington is set to reprise his role. For his portrayal of an action hero who tries to uphold his family’s moral beliefs in a terrible world, the actor received two Emmy nominations.
Jon Snow learnt his true name was Aegon Targaryen, a potential heir to the Iron Throne, in the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. He was expelled from Westeros in the series finale and joined the Wildlings north of the Wall to leave his former life behind.
Harington has starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, co-starring in 2021’s Eternals, following his involvement on Game of Thrones for eight seasons. In addition, he recently played Henry V in a live presentation at the National Theater. On Game of Thrones, he was recognised for enduring some of the show’s most difficult filming, including the infamous 11-week winter night shoots in Northern Ireland during the final season. The move signals an intriguing new direction in HBO’s handling of author George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe, similar to Disney+’s handling of its Star Wars and Marvel brands, where the streamer has found success launching character-focused sequel series like WandaVision (starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (starring Ewan McGregor reprising his iconic role).

All through the airing of the last season, it was hypothesised in forums and among fan circles that Bran would turn out to be the one in charge of the Night King and the White Walkers. In season eight, however, this was never revealed.
But, first and foremost, let’s be clear. Fans can conjecture and wonder whether he was using his powers to control the Night King and White Walkers, or perhaps to drive Daenarys insane and destroy the city, because the strength of his powers is now unknown. What, after all, was the outcome of a last season’s chaos? The Iron Throne is sat on by Bran.
If Bran is purely despicable and it has been the puppet behind all of the awful things that have happened in Game of Thrones, it’s logical to assume that more of the original actors will return in the new show. At a bare least, we’d meet King Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright), Tyrion, Hand to the King (Peter Dinklage), and Samuel Tarley, Bran’s Grand Maester (John Bradley).
It’d be incredible to see Bran decide that living in exile with a family of Targaryens – like Jon Snow (and possibly his wife and children) – is too dangerous for him. Meanwhile, Jon Snow might discover the truth about Bran and embark on a mission to stop his evil cousin and erstwhile brother.
