Jamie Chung’s Career

Chung starred in The Real World: San Diego, the 14th season of MTV’s long-running reality television show The Real World, which premiered in 2004. MTV described her as a hardworking student who worked two jobs to support her education while also enjoying partying when she was chosen for TRW: S.D. Her pals also claimed that she didn’t have the best taste in men.

Following her appearance on The Real World, Chung joined the cast of its spin-off game show, Real World/Road Rules Challenge, in the 2005 season, The Inferno II, as a member of the “Good Guys” side, which competed against the “Bad Asses.” By the end of the year,

Chung, along with her fellow Good Guys colleagues Darrell Taylor, Landon Lueck, and Mike Mizanin stayed at the end of the season after numerous cast members were ousted during the competition. Chung and her colleagues won the match by defeating the other members of the Bad Asses in the final event.

Acting:

Chung began her acting career after her time on The Real World, playing Cordy Han in ten episodes of Days of Our Lives, a Hooters girl in the 2007 comedy I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, and in episodes of CSI: N.Y. and Veronica Mars. Chung had one of her first on-camera appearances in the music video for Rihanna’s single “Umbrella,” where she played the first woman to Jay-Z’s right. The video was first shown on April 26, 2007.

Chung’s first significant onscreen role was as the series lead in the ABC Family television miniseries Samurai Girl, in which she starred in 2008. Chung was cast as Amber in Zack Snyder’s action-fantasy picture Sucker Punch in March 2011, a role requiring her to undergo physical training with Navy SEALs and work with stunt and fight choreographers who had previously worked on Snyder’s films 300 and Watchmen. Chung, on the other hand, expressed her apprehension about having to sing in the movie: “I’m not a singer. I’m working on it, but I don’t karaoke just because I’m Korean.” The following September, she provided the voice of Aimi Yoshida in the video game X-Men: Destiny.

Premium Rush, directed by David Koepp, gave Chung her first significant feature film role in 2012.

In the same year, she acted as the lead in the independent film Eden, where she played a Korean American girl kidnapped by American human traffickers and forced into prostitution. In the television series Once Upon a Time, she has played Mulan on a recurrent basis since 2012.

Other works:

Chung co-starred in the film Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, which was released in August 2014. The sixth episode of the series, “Meet Me in Daegu,” focuses on Ji-Ah and garners critical acclaim for revealing the character’s depth and complexity. According to Chung, it was the most complex character she’d ever played in her ten years as an actress and the most difficult to prepare for. Chung noted that playing Ji-ah boosted her confidence and pushed her to pursue additional leading roles and pitch her show.
