Toby Keith’s Net Worth:

Keith has a net worth of $365 million and is an American country singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer. Toby is one of country music’s most famous artists in recent decades and an extremely successful businessman.

Toby Keith Early Life

Keith Covel was born in Clinton, Oklahoma, on July 8, 1961. Carolyn and Hubert Covel have three children: one girl and two boys. In the summers, he even went to see his grandmother. In Fort Smith, Arkansas, she ran a supper club. Toby was enthralled by the artists performing in the supper club. He bought his first guitar when he was eight years old, worked various jobs around his grandmother’s club, and finally joined the house band on stage. Toby grew up with his brothers in Moore, Oklahoma, and Fort Smith, Arkansas. On the Moore High School football team, he was a defensive end. He worked as a derrick in the oil fields after graduating high school. He worked his way up to operations manager over time.

Toby formed the Easy Mony Band with a group of pals when he was 20 years old. Toby continued to work in the oil fields while the band performed at local taverns. He was laid off when the oil sector hit complex difficulties in 1982. Toby subsequently went on to play defensive end with the Oklahoma City Drillers, a semi-pro football team. After a few years of regional success, Easy Money began performing in honky-tonks across Texas and Oklahoma.

Toby Keith’s Career

In the early 1990s, Toby moved to Nashville and busked on the city’s famous Music Row. He distributed copies of his demo tape to the city’s several record labels. His demo drew no interest, so he returned to Oklahoma. He’d promised himself that by the time he was 30, he’d have a recording contract or find another way to make a living. Then, by chance, a flight attendant fan of the Easy Money Band delivered his demo tape to a Mercury Records executive on a trip she was working. Toby’s sound was so appealing to the executive that he signed him to a recording contract.

Toby’s debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” reached the top of the country music charts in 1993. The song also charted in the top 100 in pop music. “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” had over three million radio airplay by the 1990s. Yes, even more than Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart,” it was the most-played country song of the 1990s. Before departing Mercury Records in 1998, Keith released his first four studio albums for various divisions of Mercury Records: “Toby Keith,” “Boomtown,” “Blue Moon,” and “Dream Walkin’.”

All of these albums yielded several top ten singles. Keith signed with DreamWorks Records Nashville in 1998, and in late 1999, he launched his breakout single “How Do You Like Me Now?!” This song, from his 1999 album of the same name, was the number one country single of 2000 and one of several chart-topping hits during his time on DreamWorks Nashville. “Pull My Chain,” “Unleashed,” and “Shock’n Y’all,” his following three albums, each earned three additional number ones and were all certified four times Platinum.

Other Works:

From 1993 until 2000, Toby published a new album every year. Each album sold at least 500,000 copies, with the majority selling more. Toby secured the right to buy back the album from the company for $93,000 after his label rejected a handful of songs from his 1999 album “How Do You Like Me Now.” He then sold the rights for $200,000 to DreamWorks Animation. 3.1 million copies of “How Do You Like Me Now” were sold.

Keith has 19 studio albums, two Christmas albums, and five compilation albums under his belt, with over 40 million albums sold worldwide. “Unleashed,” his 2002 album, sold 3 million copies and featured a smash duet with Willie Nelson called “Beer for My Horses.” Toby paid $400,000 for a ten percent stake in Big Machine in 2004. That bet may have seemed risky at the time, but it paid off handsomely.

Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, and Taylor Swift were all signed by Big Machine. Toby Keith gets compensated every time one of Big Machine’s artists gets paid. Toby was approached by a Las Vegas casino tycoon called Don Marrandino with a proposition shortly after establishing his record labels. Marrandino planned to open an “I Love This Bar and Grill” within his casino, themed after Toby Keith. It was one of the top 50 grossing restaurants in the United States by the end of 2004.

Businesses:

For the most part, this would suffice. Toby Keith, on the other hand, is not one of them. Toby thought it was time to get into the booze business after hearing that his friend Sammy Hagar sold his Cabo Wabo tequila brand for $80 million in 2007. He thought about launching a Bourbon or vodka company. Bourbon proved challenging to mass-produce, and the vodka market appeared to be saturated.

He finally decided on Mezcal. Toby discovered a distributor and began sampling mezcal producers maintained by families. In March 2011, “Wild Shot” mezcal was released. Wild Shot was the number one premium mezcal in the United States by the year’s conclusion. Toby’s empire’s liquor division was the final piece in a building puzzle. He has a fortune worth between $60 and $100 million yearly.

Toby Keith’s Family Background

Carolyn Joan (née Ross) and Hubert K. Covel, Jr. raised Keith in Clinton, Oklahoma. He has two siblings: a sister and a boy. When Keith was in grade school, the family lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas, for a few years before relocating to Moore, Oklahoma (a suburb of Oklahoma City) when he was still young. He used to go to his grandmother’s house in Fort Smith during the summers before the family relocated to Moore. Keith got interested in the musicians who came to play at Billie Garner’s Supper Club in Fort Smith, which his grandmother owned.

Toby Keith’s relationship status

Keith married Tricia Lucus on March 24, 1984. Shelley (born in 1980, adopted by Keith in 1984), Krystal (born in 1985), and son Steven are the couple’s three children (born in 1997). Through his daughter Shelley, he has two grandchildren and one grandson.

Keith’s father was killed in an automobile accident on March 24, 2001. The incident, paired with the events of September 11, 2001, prompted Keith to write the divisive “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American),” which was a great hit, especially among military members but caused a schism between Keith and Dixie Chicks vocalist Natalie Maines.

Toby Keith’s Background in Education

Keith attended Highland West Junior High and Moore High School after his family relocated to Moore, where he was a football team member as a defensive end.

Keith worked as a derrick hand in the oil fields after graduating from Moore High School.

On January 13, 2021, President Donald Trump presented Keith with the National Medal of Arts alongside Ricky Skaggs in a secret ceremony.
