Tokyo Paralympics 2020: Devendra Jhajharia and Sundar Singh Gurjar make the nation proud by winning medals.

Veteran Devendra Jhajharia again makes the nation proud with his amazing performance in the Paralympic games and by winning the third Paralympics medal that is a silver medal this time. The discus thrower Yogesh Khatauni also finished second as India surpassed the best medal tally that has been ever recorded in history on this Monday. Two-time gold-winning javelin thrower Devendra Jhajharia makes the nation proud along with Sundar Singh Gurjar who also got a bronze medal for his amazing performance in the men’s javelin throw f-46 final. 

Sundar Singh was behind Devendra Jhajharia and the f-46 classification is mainly for athletes with arm deficiency, impaired muscle power, or have a passive range of movement in the arms. Athletes in this classification compete in the standing position. Devendra Jhajharia the forty-year-old Paralympian has become one of India’s greatest players after winning the gold medal in the 2004 and 2016 games. He pulled off the best personal throw of 64.35 m for getting the silver medal this year. The player lost his left hand after accidentally touching an electric wire while climbing the tree at the age of 8. He is right now better than his earlier world record of 63.97. The 25-year-old player Gurjar lost his left hand in 2015 after a metal sheet fell on him at his friend’s house.

 The Jaipur-based Gurjar has also won gold medals in the year 2017 and the year 2019 at the world para athletics championship. He has also won a silver medal in the year 2018 at Jakarta Para Asian Games and earlier the discus thrower Kathuniya clinched the silver medal in the men’s f- 56 event. Sundar Singh Gurjar also surpassed Devendra Jhajharia’s mark at the 2016 games with the best throw by him of 64.01 m. Due to the best performance by Devendra Jhajharia and Sundar Singh Gurjar India’s medal tally has now risen to 7 confirmed medals and the contingent record has also surpassed now.

It has taken the contingent past its previous best of four at the Rio 2016 games. Well, also Avani Lekhara became the very first Indian woman who won the gold medal at the Paralympic Games by winning the women’s 10 m air rifle event. Yogesh Khatuniya after getting the silver medal with a season-best of 44.38 m also made India proud with the contingents who left forgetting the prestigious medal. High jump Nishad Kumar and table tennis player Bhavani Patel had both received the silver medal on Sunday’s matches and discus thrower Vinod Kumar got the bronze medal in the f- 52 discus throw event which is under review right now.
