A streamer is only as good in 2022 as the headliner IP it hosts. Only the intellectual property that they host can determine whether a streaming platform succeeds or fails. Names like Netflix must snatch up any available streaming rights, in contrast to services like Disney+ and HBO Max, which can draw from substantial internal back libraries.
Recently, The Big N established a close alliance with Sony Pictures. As a result of this agreement, Netflix will be able to access new Sony films (like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which will be released next year) sometime after they have already been released in theatres. When Sony permits it, Netflix will also have access to the studio’s back catalogue.
And while Disney and Warner currently control a large portion of the superhero genre, Sony’s partnership with Netflix gives viewers the chance to see one of the biggest names in the industry—Spider-Man.
Spider-Man on Netflix: What’s Coming Up?
Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy will debut on Netflix in the US on August 1 according to a tweet from the streaming service.
He said our Spider-Man trilogy is coming to Netflix on August 1! The business tweeted an image of Kirsten Dunst’s Mary-Jane Watson and Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker from the 2002 film Spider-Man.
In addition to Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3, there will be other wall-crawling adventures. The US version of the service features The Amazing Spider-Man and the television programme Spectacular Spider-Man.
Peter Parker enters the fray for streaming?
The first three instalments of Marvel’s Spider-Man have been available for streaming in a number of other countries for quite some time, but American fans of the web-slinger seemed to be receiving the short end of the stick.
As they will be able to follow Peter Parker’s journey from beginning to end, maybe their concerns have been allayed. It will be interesting to watch, though, if Sony Pictures and the US Netflix collection are just getting started.
Maybe it won’t be long until Tom Holland’s three MCU solo Spider-Man epics and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are available on the service. If the web-slinging collection were to be finished on Netflix, it might give other superhero streaming services like HBO Max and Disney+ some ground to stand on.
A very significant deal would be to be able to name oneself the official streaming home of everything Spider-Man, and Netflix undoubtedly understands that. But until the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy launches on Netflix in the United States on August 1, fans will have to whip out their finest Bully Maguire dances.
