A landslide occurred in Uttarakhand Pithoragarh district which destroyed the place badly and at least seven people are now feared to be dead after their houses were hit badly by the debris and muck, maybe due to the cloud burst that happened all of a sudden. The landslide has caused a great loss. These reports were given by a senior officer on Monday. Pithoragarh’s district magistrate Ashish Chauhan gave some report and said, “the disaster occurred in Jamri and Tarkot hamlets in Jumma village when heavy rains lead to debris and muck hitting the houses, and so far 3 bodies have been recovered and the state disaster response force (SDRF) team is searching for the other missing persons of the village.”
Earlier in the day, Pushkar Singh, Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister said that two people were killed and five people were buried under the debris in the village which was around 125 km from the district headquarters. CM Pushkar Singh also tweeted in Hindi that, “instructions have been given to the district magistrate to intensify the rescue mission. I pray to God for the safety of the people trapped there.”
Currently, all the relief materials and SDRF teams are sent to Jumma village. Many are trying their best to provide all the essentials to the people struck there and to save the people who are stuck under debris. Pithoragarh district magistrate Ashish Chauhan also said to the news agency ANI that they are taking measures as much as possible and for this, they have also sent the SDRF team and Shastra Seema Bal (SSB) team along with some relief materials to Jumma village.
As per some reports, it is known that incessant rainfall for the last 4 to five days has been received by the Pithoragarh district and this has led to several incidents of landslides. Last week in Joshi village of Dharchula subdivision of Pithoragarh a 23-year-old woman also went missing and this has been reported by the news agency PTI.
On Saturday the Indian meteorological department IMD also issued a yellow alert in Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand as they detected that from August 29th to August 30, heavy rainfall will be seen in these areas. The situation is worsening in the state and this is due to the heavy rains. This has also caused dozens of roads to be damaged badly, and in addition to this, the bridges have also been washed away and many areas have been now submerged.
Also, on Sunday, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an aerial survey of the areas which are hit by the disaster that is located around the Garhwal division of the state, and the areas were also affected by the heavy rains. He also surveyed the affected areas of Devprayag, Kaudiyala, Rishikesh, Tindhara, Totaghati, Ranipokhari, Narendranagar, Fakot, Chamba, due to the disaster in the Garhwal division. But these heavy rains in Uttarakhand have now caused huge destruction and as a result, the 166 roads of the state have now closed. Those 166 roads also include the Badrinath and Gangotri highways. And currently, the Rishikesh Badrinath road has been alerted with a red alert and this is because of the incessant rains which are reported by the news agency ANI.
On Friday due to the vehicular traffic from Narendra Nagar to Chamba, The Rishikesh Gangotri Highway NH 94 was closed and the vehicular traffic was caused due to a large portion of it was breached and was also blocked at several places due to landslide debris. But it was open for a light vehicular traffic movement on Saturday.
