On Tuesday, the Nobel Laureate and one of the well known activists, Malala Yousafzai, married Asser Malik, who is a Pakistani Cricket Board official. The marriage was an intimate ceremony only with few and close members. The wedding was conducted in the UK on Tuesday.
Malala Yousafzai took her social media account to share the news about their marriage and also posted photos of the ceremony in Birmingham along with her husband Asser Malik and their families.
Malala Yousafzai made a tweet along with some photos and wrote, “Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.” The tweet has gained many likes and the comment section is filled with congratulatory messages.
On the other hand, Malala’s wedding also received criticism as many social media users shared the screenshot of an interview of Malala with Vogue, where she had a different opinion about marriage. In the interview which was published in July in Vogue magazine, Malala said she does not understand why people have to get married. “I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?” Malala had told Vogue magazine in June. And as per some reports, her mother did not agree with Malala’s opinion and said, “Don’t you dare say anything like that! You have to get married. Marriage is beautiful.”
According to some reports, it is known that Asser Malik is from Lahore and he is an entrepreneur and the general manager of the Pakistan board’s High Performance Centre. It is also reported that he was also associated with a Pakistani Super League franchise and he had an agency of player management.
He reportedly studied in the Aitchison College, located in Lahore, and also in the Lahore University of Management Sciences. According to the reports of Press Trust of India, Malala and Asser met each other two years ago and then they developed a close friendship.
Well, you may know that in 2012, Malala was 15 when she was shot in the head in Pakistan by a member of the Taliban because of defying a diktat banning girls from school. She was also flown to the UK for treatment. Then, in 2014, she won the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17. With this achievement, she became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner. She shared the prize with child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi. She completed her graduation from Oxford University with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics last year. Malala had indeed faced many hardships at a very young age just for the wellness of people, and she has also achieved many honours because of her activism.
Well, many congratulatory messages have poured in from across the word for the gritty activist, which also includes Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British screenwriter and Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith. In addition to them, Apple CEO Tim Cook and film star Priyanka Chopra are also the ones who have wished the couple.
Malala’s husband Asser Malik has also taken to Twitter to share the photo of him and Malala cutting cake, and to share his feelings for Malala. He tweeted, “”In Malala, I found the most supportive friend, a beautiful and kind partner – I’m so excited to spend the rest of our life together. Thank you all for the wishes on our Nikkah. In following our cricket team’s tradition, we had to do a victory cake cutting.”
