Ajay Ratra applies for an India fielding coach job, likely to get selected!

Recently, BCCI has been searching out contenders to fill in the slots for different roles with the Indian cricket team. In the latest events, reportedly, it has been known that Ajay Ratra, the former Indian wicket-keeper has expressed his interest for the position of fielding coach of the Indian cricket team. Well, talking about his career, the Faridabad-born cricketer has already been a part of six Tests and 12 ODIs.

On the other hand, Ratra has also played 99 first-class matches. While it has to be noted that Ratra has played his role for many coaching positions before and currently, he stands to be the head coach of the Assam team. Ratra is in the northeastern state and the state is preparing for their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy run which begins on November 4th.

Ajay Ratra shared about his development to the Times of India and said, “It will be great if I can contribute to team India’s success if given a chance.” 

Well, Ajay Ratra is currently the head coach of the Assam team and the 39-year-old is an active member at National Cricket Academy. Ajay Ratra has earlier worked with some amazing Indian players such as Wriddhiman Saha and Rishabh Pant. Well, talking about the head coach position, reportedly, it has come to know that former Indian legendary batter Rahul Dravid is all ready to take the head coach position. But it has to be noted that the official statement from the BCCI’s end is not given yet.

However, October 26th was reported as the deadline to fill out the application for the position of the head coach and Rahul Dravid has now formally filled the form for the position. And surely, Rahul Dravid has the best experience of playing his trade with young cricketers of India and has been praised time and again as he has helped to develop young talents across the country. In addition to this, he was even chosen as head coach of the second-string Indian side that went to tour Sri Lanka, and the main team was on their tour to England.

According to a statement made by a BCCI official, while mentioning Rahul Dravid’s latest developments, the official stated,  “Yes, Rahul has formally applied today as it’s the last day of the deadline. His team at the NCA, bowling coach Paras (Mhambrey), and fielding coach Abhay (Sharma) have already applied. His application was just a formality.” 

The BCCI also said in a statement, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invites applications for the positions of Head Coach, Batting Coach, Bowling Coach, Fielding Coach with Team India (Senior Men) and Head Sports Science/Medicine with National Cricket Academy (NCA),” 

Rahul Dravid had recently met BCCI secretary Jay Shah and president Sourav Ganguly in Dubai on the sidelines of the IPL final between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah are understood to have a conversation with him about taking up the head coach position after Ravi Shastri steps back, at the end of India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021.
