Were all of you comic book fans waiting impatiently for Todd Phillips to unveil the details of a Joker sequel while holding your breath?
No? Oh well. Phillips revealed a Joker sequel on Instagram at the beginning of June. The first is the title page of the movie’s script, which lists Joker: Folie à Deux as the film’s current working title. The second image depicts Joaquin Phoenix, who won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as the Joker in the first film adaptation, reading the relevant screenplay.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed earlier this summer that the movie Joker: Folie à Deux is a musical and that Lady Gaga was in serious discussions to play the villain’s on-again, off-again love interest, Harley Quinn. Gaga tweeted a spookier-than-hell trailer for the movie to announce her involvement, which you can see below. Phew! The cast around Lady Gaga and Phoenix, appearing in this clown performance, is rapidly growing.
Joker: Folie à Deux will include Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland, and Zazie Beetz. Jacob Lofland’s character supposedly “develops a relationship” with the Joker when he is an Arkham Asylum inmate, which is a type of companionship that no one should ever seek out. However, many of the roles are still cloaked in secrecy.
Joker was a largely soulless interpretation of a legendary character, and Phoenix would be well to collect his awards and go on. Joker: Folie à Deux’s full-on musical transformation will either result in an Oscar-baiting disaster or something so utterly bonkers that it provides the comic book movie genre a much-needed shakeup. (We’re going with the first. Also, Todd Phillips, if you could kindly refrain from performing the staircase dance once more with Gaga’s Harley Quinn standing at the side of the Joker?
Even still, it came as a surprise when Phillips first announced a Joker sequel because neither he nor Phoenix seemed really interested in reviving the series, especially after The Batman. The title is the only clue we have as to where this movie may indeed lead Arthur Fleck. We now know that Quinn will appear in the sequel with the Joker or in opposition to him. or either.
The Follow-Up Will Shoot in Los Angeles because of tax credits
Will the West Coast be the setting for The Joker? Although the sequel to filmmaker Todd Phillips’ Gotham is reported to be in production in Los Angeles thanks to $12.6 million in tax credits awarded to Warner Bros. by the state of California, the first picture is clearly based in grimy ’70s New York.
Expected to Return as Sophie is Zazie Beetz
Call it a ménage à trois in your head. In “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Zazie Beetz could make a comeback as Arthur’s next-door neighbor Sophie, with whom he fantasises about having a sexual connection. Deadline stated that Beetz is now in discussions to reprise her part even though Sophie was suggested to have been slain by Arthur during his homicidal antics as the Joker. Additionally, the “Atlanta” actress recently raved about how the musical element for the follow-up movie “makes fantastic sense” and wasn’t at all anticipated.
In the role of Harley Quinn, Lady Gaga
There is a new Harley Quinn in Gotham, so Kaley Cuoco and Margot Robbie should move aside. As Harley, the love interest (and similarly insane counterpart) of Phoenix’s Joker, Academy Award winner Lady Gaga will play the role. Or, as the phrase “folie à deux” implies, perhaps Harley is a different family member of Arthur, a.k.a. the Joker. Time will only tell.
“Joker: Folie à Deux,” according to Todd Phillips, is the title of the sequel.
For clarification, folie à deux refers to an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more people, typically members of a close family. Writer-director Todd Phillips announced on Instagram that Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as the titular Joker for the sequel “Joker: Folie à Deux.” You may be wondering who that “Deux” may be.
Joker: Folie à Deux is a musical, right?
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Joker: Folie à Deux is a musical and that Lady Gaga was in serious negotiations to play the villain’s on-again, off-again love interest, Harley Quinn, in the movie earlier this summer.
Is a Joker 2 definite?
Overall, “Joker” received 11 nominations. With an Instagram post teasing the title in June 2022, Phillips announced the existence of a “Joker” sequel. Warner Bros. is scheduled to release the movie on October 4, 2024.
Is Lady Gaga Harley Quinn?
Joker: Folie à Deux, the follow-up to Joker, will star Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. The scene-stealing pop legend released a brief preview for the movie on social media.
