Asteroid City : To Be Released in Cinemas

Wes Anderson, the most beloved of all auteur directors, will be ecstatic to learn that Asteroid City, his eleventh feature film, will finally be released in 2023. When Asteroid City premieres in theatres in 2023, Anderson fans will be able to start their summers off with a healthy dosage of symmetrical shots.
The movie will debut on June 16 in a small number of theatres before getting a broader distribution one week later, on June 23. The film will be distributed domestically by Focus Features and internationally by Universal Pictures International.

Anderson’s Movies & Collaborations

Following the distribution of Anderson’s last three movies, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, and The French Dispatch, by Searchlight Pictures, Asteroid City is another partnership between Anderson and Focus Features. On this movie, Anderson and Focus Features are working with Indian Paint brush, another frequent Anderson collaborator who hasn’t missed any of his films since 2012’s Moonrise Kingdom.

Academy Award Nomination & World Premiere

The French Dispatch, Anderson’s final movie, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021 and debuted in theatres in October of that same year. It was unexpectedly Anderson’s first movie since 2007’s The Darjeeling limited to not garner even one Academy Award nomination. That ended a run of four movies with at least one Academy Award nomination in a row.
Anderson co-wrote the screenplay for Asteroid City with his frequent partner Roman Coppola. This all-star cast, which includes Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Ed Norton, and Liev Schreiber as well as several newcomers to Anderson’s films like Maya Hawke, Scarlett Johansson, Margot Robbie, is gathered by Anderson, Steven Rales, the founder of Indian Paint brush, and Jeremy Dawson.
With Asteroid City taking place in a fictional desert town in 1955, Anderson’s next movie will similarly take a step away from the modern world like The French Dispatch did. The following is the movie’s synopsis:
A Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention’s schedule is spectacularly altered by events that change the course of history. The convention was planned to bring together students and parents from all over the country for fellowship and academic competition.
On June 16, 2023, Asteroid City will debut in a small number of cinemas, followed on June 23, 2023, by a wider theatrical release
