The first Renfield trailer has been released by Universal, and it features plenty of comedy and bloody violence in a fresh take on the Dracula legend. The main character of Chris McKay’s contemporary monster story is Dracula’s (Nicolas Cage) patient servant (Nicholas Hoult).
The question is how Renfield can get the bravery to abandon his lord after centuries of service when, in contemporary New Orleans, he falls in love with traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina). I need to get out of a toxic relationship, Renfield cries in the video as he attends a group therapy session in an attempt to find out what to do.
Renfield replies, “My employer is… different,” to the therapist’s question, “Why don’t you start by telling us what led you here.” The next scene depicts Renfield pulling a body into the vampire’s macabre home, which is lined with bloody bags.
Before asking for a “busload of cheerleaders” and a “handful of nuns,” Dracula also lets us see close-ups of his teeth. In an earlier interview with Empire Magazine, Cage claimed that the movie has a “funny pop-art attitude.” He said: “When I got a sense of where McKay wanted to go, I recognized the movie has a comedic, pop art attitude.
I, therefore, predicted that Dracula would be pop-art. Black-on-black Dracula by Warhol is excellent. This is in the style of Warhol. But if the trailer is any indication, Renfield will have plenty of spooky moments. The movie is a “very violent comedy,” according to producer Robert Kirman.
During a recent episode of Kevin Smith’s podcast Fatman Beyond, he said, “I have a crutch, so it’s a great, really violent comedy.
Release Date of Renfield
On April 14, 2023, the film is scheduled to hit theatres. The movie started shooting in New Orleans, Louisiana, in early 2022, and Universal Pictures announced the news by publishing a behind-the-scenes image at the time.
Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse), Bess Rouss (Ghostbusters), and James Moses Black will also be included in the cast of Renfield in addition to the primary trio of Hoult, Cage, and Awkwafina.
Aghdashloo portrays Ella, a crime boss in the city, while Rous plays Caitlyn, a member of the toxic relationship support group.
In January 2022, Cage discussed how he got the idea for his character. He told the Los Angeles Times that he took inspiration from the roles played by Bela Lugosi in the 1931 film Dracula, Frank Langella in the 1979 version of the same name, and Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Movement is crucial, in my opinion, Cage remarked. “I watched a movie called Malignant, and I was horrified by the choreography that James Wan and the actress [Annabelle Wallis] came up with. As a result, I’m trying to create something similar where Dracula can glide or move like Sadako in Ringu.
In a November 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hoult elaborated on this, saying he was eager for people to witness what Cage has done. It’s original, but it’s based on a lot of myth and Dracula history, he said. Even if the tone is heightened and rather strange for an action comedy, it is nevertheless entertaining
